I keep getting Power Calibration Area Error at 50% when I'm trying to burn a .dvd file. I did the google search, and I read the sticky here, and it's NOT because it's bad media. I'm using genuine Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, and I already wasted two. These discs are expensive, so I don't want to just continue to waste them. My burner is a Pioneer bdr-203 drive and I am burning at 2.4x speed on Windows 7 64bit. After getting the error the first time around, I updated my driver to the latest firmware, and tried again, and still getting this error. Does anyone know why this is happening? The BD-drive power is being shared by an SSD which is my boot drive, so I'm wondering if this might be a factor. Is it because I'm trying to burn at 2.4x instead of 4x?

You should try the remaining 'supported' write speeds.

I 17:22:21 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

If they all fail too, you probably need to look at trying a new spindle of discs. Depending on the results with those, you might want to consider cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc.

If it still doesnt work after that, get yourself a new drive - just a standard DVD burner would do - an Optiarc 726x or something.

btw, service pack 1 is out for your OS now.

Hmm.. I'm going to try again with 4x, but I don't want to waste more discs if it's the dvd burner. These discs shouldn't be a problem, and they're a brand new pack from newegg, not the OEM kind. It's funny though, my burner can burn all other types of media fine, but just having problems getting the 2nd layer of the DL dvd's. Hopefully it's not because I'm sharing the power from the PSU to the drive and a harddrive. Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll report back if it's solved.
