Been doing this for years, but this is new to me. Have searched Forums to no avail.

When I opened up Shrink it had a thin Red key-line around it's Window, never saw that before, ---but continued. First issue(1) It would only recognize one of my opticals.

Proceeded to analyze and encode. Got the Back-up complete Window.(2) Opened ImgBurn but could not find the designated Shrink Target ( © Drive ). Tried again with different targets ...no luck. Went back to Shrink Back-up, found the file and Right -Clicked ...Open with ImgBurn. (3)ImagBurn opens with the selected File, but it too has a thin Red Key-line around window. It also only recognizes one Optical and won't allow me to alter Burning speeds.

I can Burn a copy..but don't like the idea of diminishing options.

Have Uninstalled and Installed both pieces of Software. Tried unsuccessfully to find the DVD Shrink/ImgBurn exe. There's stuff out there labeled as such..bit it's just the Original burn with Nero Shrink Edition. Even tried a System Restore!

You Guys and Gals Rock...thanks in advance for any input.

The log is saved first when you close the program. Perhaps that's the reason?

Not sure what you mean with:

It also only recognizes one Optical and won't allow me to alter Burning speeds.

In log it shows that it finds two writers, can't you select them by the drop down box?

That "Shrink" program - is that the DVD Shrink one?

That "red" one - any chance you can post an image/picture of that one?

Posted

Cynthia...trying to post Screen Shot...keeps saying the File is too big. Gotta crash now..back to you tomorrow evening. Thanks again.

Posted

I sound like Columbo here with"just one more thing".

Log may state that it recognizes two Burners...BUT can't access Drop down Menu for Burner or Burning Speed. And yes...DVD Shrink is the other Software dilemma.

Posted

Does it have a message in the status bar? (after switching to 'Write' mode or whatever)

If the program is busy doing something, sometimes those fields may remain disabled.

Again, a screenshot would help us see what you're seeing :)

Just save the file as a PNG (or JPEG if that isn't an option) and upload it. Using BMP may make it larger than the forum will accept.

Lightning UK... you and Cynthia were so helpful to me in '06 when I was a newbie. You taught me "how to fish". I am at work so I can't post any screenshot. But whatever my problem is--it's in conjunction with DVD Shrink.

I can open ImgBurn and access ALL the drop down menus ie. Target, Burning Speed, # of Copies. BUT it can't find the .ISO Files that Shrink generated. When I go back to Shrink Backup I can locate the File, right click on it and go to Burn with ImgBurn. ImgBurn then proceeds to open-- and I can burn the file, but without being able to access my Drop-down Menus. It will only burn 1 copy at 6X. And the weird Red line... is just a thin Key-line that frames the ImgBurn and ImgBurn Log Window. No other messages or warnings during the Burn process.

Posted

Perhaps I can further isolate( no pun intended ) the problem.

It occurs to me I have some small .ISO files on an external HD. Let me put them on my PC Desktop and see if ImgBurn can find the File. If it can...then I'll know that my problem revolves around DVDShrink. Even though I've d/l and installed different three different Shrink.exe files, including one that was supposed to have an ImgBurn link within---but didn't. Will post when I get home........and thanks.

Hi,

I just wanted to throw in an idea. Do you maybe use avast! as your anti-virus solution at home? Avast! in version 6 has a new feature called Auto-Sandboxing. So your problem may be just that you're running these programs sandboxed by accident, which gives them very limited access. If I remember correctly, programs running sandboxed by avast! have a thin red frame border around them.

EUREKA!!!!!!!!!!!

BOCO....You dah man.(or woman ) That's what it was. Disabled Avast for ten minutes, and BOTH programs (DVDShrink +ImgBurn ) worked flawlessly. And without the red frame border.

Thanks so much to everyone for all your imput.

No problem. Btw. you can change AutoSandbox settings from the "Additional Protection" tab in avast! My recommendation is setting AutoSandbox mode to "Ask", so it will request confirmation. And you should exclude Shrink and ImgBurn from Sandboxing, so you do not have to disable protection to run it.

Took your suggestion and all is well. At the risk of being redundant...thanks again for your insightful observations.
