Colombani Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) I have a LG BE08LU20 drive and i have been trying to burn some BD-RE DL discs lately. I have purchased 3 Sony BD-RE DL 50GB and 2 Verbatim BD-RE DL 50Gb discs. The problem is my drive wont format the discs. I have been successful with only 1 of the sony discs. (which didnt require formatting the first time, i could start burning instantly.) For the rest i am going to post the log for the error below. The LG drive is not old i purchased it a month ago and i have had no troubles burning bd-r disc since then. The sony and verbatim discs are also new. I have no chance to try on other drives unfortunately if you suggest that. And the firmware of the LG drive is the latest i could find which is 2.00. I searched for a custom firmware but i couldnt find any. Here are the logs for 1 Sony disc and 1 verbatim. LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 You may find those MIDs just aren't supported by the drive's firmware yet.
Colombani Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) is there a solution? like a custom firmware or something? the lastest firmware is old so i guess LG wont make a newer one. Also as i said i have been successful with one of the Sony discs, it is exactly the same with the others. would that be possible if they werent supported? I also use verbatim bd-r s and i dnt have any problem with those. ps: i have been searching a little bit and i found a program called "MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool". Would that help me solve my problem if it is because of the unsupported mid? If it would, i will really appreciate some help using it. Edited May 22, 2011 by Colombani
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Send a support request to LG asking for them to add support for those 2 MIDs. It would be worth double checking they aren't already in the firmware though - using the tool you mentioned. You should ask its author for help in using it. Do so over at the MyCE forums.
Colombani Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 First of all thank you for your help Lightning. unfortunately that sofware doesnt show media code list for this LG firmware. So i cant check the list and cant edit it. Do i have any other options? and what is your opinion on one of the disc working fine but not others? even if the MIDs arent supported is there a chance that once in a while a disc will work?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Well, if it didn't require formatting, you wouldn't have run the same commands on it. Does its MID match the one of the other Sony discs? Contact LG and see if they're going to do anything about it. If they aren't and you really want to use those discs, you may have to get a new burner that does support them properly.
Colombani Posted May 26, 2011 Author Posted May 26, 2011 (edited) I have solved my problem. Here is how i did it for anyone that also have the same problem. I have flashed my drive with BH08LS20 firmware which had a newer firmware released. ( http://www.lge.co.kr/upload/SW_PDS/BH08LS20_2.00-03(kw).zip ) using the DevilsClaw's Renesas Flasher. I want to thank cvs @ MyCE forums for walking me thru all the complicated steps. And that solved the problem, looks like the problem were with MIDs as LIGHTINIG UK suggested. i also want to thank you, LIGHTINIG UK, for leading me to the right direction and helping out. I can gladly help out others if they want to do the complicated flashing proccess, just send me a pm. Edited May 26, 2011 by Colombani
