btriant Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Hi. I have a HP Pavilion PC which has a DVD-RW 16X HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4166B (Lightscribe DL drive), which came with the PC. I recently bought some Imation DVD+R DL discs to use for burning purposes and found that my DVD-ROM does not recognise these discs, even though it should. Even in programs like ImgBurn they are not recognised. I tried updating the firmware for the DVD-ROM but could not tell if it worked or not after following instructions. It asked for me to download and burn on CD an .iso file and then boot from this CD. I did not get any messages about the upgrade during the boot so assumed it did not work. Can you please advise here? Am I doing something wrong with the update or do I need a new DVD-ROM even though it should read/write DL DVD dics? I subsequently, on the advice of others, bought Verbatim DVD+R DL discs as they told me the Imation ones were not good. ImgBurn still did not recognise the discs. Some one please help. Regards. Btriant.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 If your drive can't initialise any DL discs, it's probably about time you got a new one. That said, figuring out the firmware update may solve the problem. Cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc may also help.
ianymaty Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 There's no need to burn a disc for update the firmware. Just download the .exe and run it, reboot after. http://www.firmwarehq.com/download_1263-file_sp26626.exe.html Although, as LUK! said, maybe it's time for a new burner.
