I've been using Imgburn for about a year now. It comes with "DVDFLICK" for converting mpeg4 to DVD. One day it made the .iso (dvdflick), file but wouldn't write the image. I reinstalled both programs and it worked for about a week. I installed the newest version of imgburn and it cured the problem for another week or so. I tried slowing down the write speed to 4x and it worked once then failed again. I finally just reinstalled Windows and both those programs again. I got an error that Imgburn wasn't recognizing the dvd writer. I cleaned the writer and changed to a different brand of dvd although I've used both brands previously with no problems. It recognized the writer so I tried again. DVDFLICK made the .iso but it hung again in Imgburn. I tried another .iso burner with the same .iso and it worked fine so it's not a "build problem". Is my writer failing maybe? I have all the newest software, drivers, and firmware plus the "new" install of Windows xp. It worked before so I don't think it's the computer configuration (RAM or Harddrive etc...). Any ideas? I'll have try again to post a log file but I'd appreciate any ideas.

Depends, is your writer old or used a lot? A log still would be helpful.

Also check for any firmware updates with imgburn by being in any mode, and clicking on Tools -> Drive -> check for firmware updates...

My burner is about 2 years old. I've burned around 200 dvd's or so since it was new. It seems to work fine burning data with Windows or burning an image with a different image burner (I have one that doesn't have to install), although it did fail once before with the other .iso burning software. I changed the write speed to 4x and it worked that time. I've since cleaned it, updated the firmware and switched brands on my disks, (I've used "both" brands before with no problems though). Is there a log file somewhere I can grab and re-post here or do I have to go through the whole thing again to get to it?

Well, here's the log file. It doesn't seem to say much. (I'll copy/paste "and" attach it just in case)

Well see if cleaning the burner with a cleaning disc helps. Your firmware is already up to date. If that doesn't work try getting different media instead of Ritek discs. It doesn't matter what the brand of the disc says, what is important is the disc-id. In your log it is shown as Ritek. Go for Verbatim +R discs, those have the MCC disc ID.

I 11:04:08 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)

Service Pack 3 for XP has been out for a while now, you might want to upgrade to it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/service-packs

Since you are running an older service pack, it might be also a good idea to see if there are any updates to your chipset drivers as well. For that go to www.ma-config.com to find out what chipset you are running, and to get the appropriate updated drivers.

Switch back to DAO/SAO Write type instead of Incremental.

Try with a higher speed.

I just checked the settings. It was already set to "DAO/SAO". I had problems before, switched to the slower 4x and it worked once so I tried going slower. You think 2x is too slow?

Service Pack 3 gave me problems after a new install and I had to re-install Windows XP. I use a different updater that allows me to choose the updates with more precision (Autopatch). This is the same configuration as I had before and imgburn had no problems. All my drivers are updated (I checked all of that first). I've also used two different disks. Both worked before, now neither one works.

You think 2x is too slow?

2x is not an option here and practicaly is impossible, 2,4x being the slowest possible for DVD+R media.

Try 8x and 12x

It fails at ANY speed.

Consider getting other media rather than Ritek. Get Verbatim +R disc ID MCC, since all other options seem to be exhausted short of getting a new drive.

I can take the "iso image" created by DVD Flick and then burn it with a stand alone image burner that I have and it works fine. That tells me it most likely isn't the disks or the drive. Maybe it's some weird "Windows" issue... but I just did a complete reinstall so I'm baffled. I don't completely understand the logs. You're not seeing anything else? I'll check the Windows error logs and see if it tells me anymore.

Your drive don't like that disc.

Try with Verbatim as Ricewind suggest or at least other than RITEK-F16-01 MID.

Buy a new drive that burns that disc you use.

I have successfully burned 8 dvd's in a row by using dvd flick to make the "iso" image and then using "Active© ISO Burner" to burn the image. This tells me the drive is functioning properly and the disks themselves are not an issue. It has to be an issue with Imgburn or at the very least some sort of Windows issue related to Imgburn or it's installation. Reinstalling Imgburn does nothing. As I said, I just recently reinstalled Windows XP so I'm leaning towards Imgburn. Does anyone have any other ideas or is there a tech support site I can go to?

Are you on SP3 now?

When you are, make sure the 'SPTI - Device Enumeration Method' option is set to 'Device Instance' on the I/O tab in the Settings.

Post a new log when that's all done and if a burn still fails.
