DOK Posted August 8, 2006 Share Posted August 8, 2006 Hello I've been using Imgburn for several months now and never had any problems before now. I recently upgraded from 1.2 to 2.0 and attempted to burn an image. I was initially confused because I was unwittingly in "Build" mode, and I accidentally burned the image to the dvd as an actual image file - like a dvd rom. Anyways this burn went fine (although it wasn't what I meant to do). Afterwards I attempted to write in "write" mode this time using the same exact image file that was stored locally on my hard drive. The burn failed and the log was giving a repetitive message (It was a phrase, I don't remember what it said exactly, I didn't save the log, I'm not on the same computer now, probably won't be using that same computer again until the weekend..so it makes it harder to troubleshoot sorry). I tried 2 more times and ruined 2 more discs - receiving the same error message each time. Anyways the computer is a Toshiba laptop, I was using DVD+R discs (Fujifilm), the drive is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-841F. I'd appreciate any info thanks! kevdriver Posted August 8, 2006 Share Posted August 8, 2006 DOK, know its a bummer ,making frizbies, but a log definitly would narrow things down for us by showing us whats going on thats causing you to make coasters in the first place.............. Your drive is just having real trouble burning to those one - which is understandable because prodisc are certainly not one of the 'better' ones! You might also like to go searching for a firmware update for the drive. Visit the website of whoever made your PC. The laptop is a Toshiba, not having any luck with their website..currently checking for firmware elsewhere. Hopefully the problem is not the drive itself as this other thread indicates, the drive has probably burned less than 10 dvds its entire life, and I've been successful using this exact blank disc before. I think that's why a lot of people just buy usb enclosures and use external ones. Seriously though, before spending too much time on it, get some MCC or Taiyo Yuden discs and try burning those. If the media is borderline, you could try a disc 10 times and 5 it might fail, the other 5 it might not. Just because your drive managed to burn it before (or those 5 our of 10 times) doesn't mean it was actually a decent quality burn. With good discs you'll get 10 out of 10 burns being successful and they'll all be decent quality burns. The 'Drives and Media' forum is there to help people decide on what media to get - trouble is, there have been no tests with your exact drive. Still, you can get a rough idea by taking an average of all the other drives. Decent discs tend to produce excellent results on all drives, not just 1 or 2. Anyway, glad it's sorted.
