Hiya I have tried to format a Blu ray disk that I have used quite a few times but in the description it says "Failed to zero sectors - Reason: No additional sense information", not only did I try with one what I used but a brand new one and it still gave me the error messages!! Why is this???? Is it still ok to use the disc if it hasnt zeroed all the sectors????? Please help as I have no idea what it means???

yours thankfully

'Acer' doesn't really cut it :)

I need specific model numbers if I'm to look up which chipsets / controllers are available on the board. Basically what I'm going for is you needing to update the drivers for the chipset/controller.

The error message means exactly what it says. That is, there was an error of some sort but no additional info about it is available.

Normally the drive would return 'Write Error' or similar in place of 'No additional sense information'.

Zeroing is exactly the same as writing (but with 0's instead of real data). So if you try and write to the disc, you'll no doubt run into the same errors.

Hiya it has done it again but it has now fecked up a 50 gig blu ray rewriteable!!!! Im am not too pleased!!!! I need to know is it my motherboard or the actual blu ray burner that is the problem here????? I dunno which motherboard it is exactly, all I do know is that its the Acer Aspire AX3300 setup that I have got!!! I need to know if it is the burner as ill take it back and get a replacement or is it the mainboard? I have recently returned my setup to the factory setup as there is a program on a partition that allows me to do this but it still knackered the Blu Ray up!!! Im just going to have to hope that I can blag Maplins and say it was knackered at the beginning to get another rewriteable blu ray!!

This only happens on Blu ray disks as when I put in a dvd or even a dual layed dvd it works perfectly!!! Lastly after looking on the internet all I can see is that the motherboard runs on a Nvidia 9200 chipset if that is of any help???

Please Help!!!

Nothing is 'fecked', you can't kill a rewritable just by burning to it like that. It'll work fine when the rest of your system does.

Personally I'd have gone for an LG or Pioneer burner rather than the Sony model... so if you can take it back, try and do so.

You'd have to try the drive on a decent intel chipset board with the proper chipset/ata drivers installed to see if you still just end up with the 'No Additional Sense Information' error code being returned. Otherwise there's no way of knowing if it's motherboard or the drive that's causing the problem.

Don't get me wrong, the drive would still probably error out (that's a drive/firmware/media combo issue), but at least you might get the real error code.

The reason I say the blu ray cd is broken is that the drive wont see it using img burn or any other software!!! It doesnt even spot it on my computer as it says the drive is empty even tho it has the 50 gig blu ray re in it!!! If I get another drive do you think it will spot the disk and therefore erase it or will it now be gone forever????
