Somewhat new to ImgBurn (and I have a question)

Hi and thank you in advance for your help. This is my first post at the ImgBurn forums.

 

It happens that I recently discarded Nero as my burning program and now I'm an ImgBurn fan. Today I burned a folder to a disc and there's a situation I don't know how to solve: When I click on "Build" or "Calculate image size" I receive the message "You've only selected 1 folder! (folder path/name) Does the XXXX folder content represent what should be the root directory content?" The thing is: No matter if I click "Yes" or "No", a folder called "Temporary recording folder" (or similar - it appears in Spanish for me) replacing either the root folder's original name (if I click "Yes") or replacing the first subfolder's original name (if I click "No") ends up in my disc. Not that it's actually a problem since the whole content is burnt successfully, but I'd like the result to be exactly as the original, including folder names. I really appreciate your input on this. Again, thank you in advance!

Do you fully understand what the prompt is asking?

 

If you add the folder 'C:\Stuff to burn' to the source box and click the 'Yes' button, only the contents of that folder will end up on the disc - so when you browse the disc you *WILL NOT* see the 'Stuff to burn' folder.

If you click 'No', when you browse the disc you *WILL* see the 'Stuff to burn' folder.

 

I can't comment on what you're seeing without knowing the full path name of the folder you've added to the source box and the names of files/folders it contains.

Thank you so much for your reply! The folder I'm burning is called G:\Finale 2011. G: is one of the partitions in my hard disk. "Finale 2011" has two subfolders: "Instalador" and "Portable". "Instalador" has three subfolders plus six files. "Portable" has just one file inside. When I click "Yes" at the prompt, "Finale 2011" is replaced by "Temporary recording folder" in the disc. When I click on "No", "Instalador" is replaced by "Temporary recording folder". Again, the folders' content is burnt OK. My only annoyance is that folder name change.

There's no way ImgBurn is doing what you're saying.

 

Are you perhaps not just seeing what Windows displays for discs it thinks it can write to?

 

Try and get me a screenshot of what you're seeing.

OK. Here's the original folder structure (as in my hard disk):

"Carpeta de grabación temporal" is Spanish for "Temporary recording folder". "FINALE_2011" is the label I assigned to the disc.

Notice the treeview (left) doesn't match the listview (right).

 

The treeview is wrong, the listview is correct.

 

Look the disc with something like IsoBuster, I'm sure you'll see it's fine.

You are right. IsoBuster shows it just fne. But why Windows shows the folder properties with the same name ("Temporary recording folder")?

 

 

And it's not a glitch in my PC. I burned that disc for a friend and, when he opened it in his laptop this morning, we saw exactly the same.

I honestly have no idea.

 

Maybe it's due to some other software you've both got installed on your PCs.

 

All I know is that ImgBurn isn't making that folder or renaming your other ones to it.

Hey! I think I've found the culprit (I should have started looking here): Just after I started using ImgBurn, I found this web page and I followed the instructions there:

 

Open the "Options" tab (upper right) and set the following settings: [image]

Data Type: MODE1/2048

File System: ISO9660 + UDF

UDF Revision: 1.50

Select Include Hidden Files

Select Include System Files

 

Open the "Advanced" tab (upper right), then open the "Restrictions" tab, then set the following settings on the "ISO9660" tab: [image]

In the "Folder/File Name Length" section, choose "Level X - 219 Characters"

In the lower section, select the following options:

Allow more than 8 directory levels

Allow more than 255 characters in path

Allow files without extensions

 

Open the "Advanced" tab, then open the "Restrictions" tab, then open the "Joliet" tab and set the following settings: [image]

Level X - 110 Characters

Select "Allow files without extensions"

 

 

I've just tried resetting ImgBurn to the default settings and the problem is gone! No more "Temporary Recording Folder" in my disc. So my question now is: Are those recommended settings really better for creating a CD image, or is it better to leave the default ones? Anyway, and just for the sake of curiosity, I'm going to apply those settings again and start unticking one by one until I find which one causes that folder renaming.

ImgBurn's default settings work fine for most people. In the rare cases settings have to be changed, ImgBurn will ask you about them and also explain why (e.g. BD-Video discs use UDF 2.50+ instead of UDF 1.02)

 

Notice the guide you quoted above tells you to change Joliet settings when in fact you're not even including Joliet as a filesystem (it tells you to use ISO9660 + UDF only). Also notice that UDF 1.02 is far more compatible than UDF 1.50, so use the default UDF 1.02 revision if you don't have a specific reason to use a higher revision.
