Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Failed! - Reason: Timeout on Logical Unit

Hello everybody.

Yesterday I was trying to burn DVD +R DL discs (bought an XBOX recently...) and was really frustrated. Firstly, program (my drive) did not recognized the ACME discs. I bought Verbatims (8x DVD +R DL) and tried to burn them. Luckily, one of the two I bought was recognized... but.

The burning process was terminated shortly after the start with a message "Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Failed! - Reason: Timeout on Logical Unit". Can I try to do something with my drive/program/firmware? Or should I just buy another dvd writing device? My DVD writer is PLDS DVD+- RW DS-8A5SH, firmware XD13 (ATA).

The log goes like this:

Do you get the same issue if you try burning at 3x or 4x ?

If it just keeps failing then yeah, you should get another burner - and not another slimline one!

OK, I will buy another pair of Verbatims and try to burn them at x3 speed.

Do you think it is mainly a problem of DVD writer? Maybe some suggestions about the affordable-but-still-ok device? I'm using a DELL inspiron laptop, so not quite sure if all kinds of DVD recorders would work with it.

I'm sure it's cheaper to buy discs on a spindle rather than buying them individually.

What you'd do is buy an external USB enclosure and put a standard desktop drive in it - something like an Optiarc 7260/7280.

Thank you very much for you responses.

For example, maybe these two will be fine for my purposes?

I'm sorry for the Lithuanian language in them, I just made a quick searh in nearest shops.

Sorry, my mistake. Never had encounter with this kind of hardware :)

If I decide to just buy an external DVD recorder: are there any reliable models (that would be affordable)?

Posted

Sorry, I've never purchased an actual 'external' burner so I can't help you with that one.

The internal drives seem to get better support and more firmware updates. That's why I'd get one of those and a generic enclosure instead.

OK.

So I borrowed a standard recorder from friend (LG), and it is practically the same thing:

What could be the problem? I use Verbatims, and they are not so cheap. Another RW does not solve the problem.
