Problem burning to Verbatim DL - disc

Hello! Ok, so i've been trying to burn an xbox 360 game onto a Verbatim DVD +R DL (8x) disc (#43666, made in india). I've got a Vaio laptop with a Matshita UJ870QJ and according to amazon.com's info on my laptop (VGN-Fw11E) the drive should be able to write to DL-media:

Problem is it doesn't work, i keep getting the same error messages. The burn itself doesn't even start. I've tried different burning speeds, doesn't work. I've tried burning an .avi file onto the same DL-discs, doesn't work. I've tried burning the same .avi file onto a regular Verbatim DVD +R single layer and THAT works. So basically something goes wrong when burning onto DL. But what?
