USB 2.0 Burner works on one computer, not on another

Sure hope you can help me out with this.

 

I'm trying to burn XGD3 Xbox360 discs. I have an approved Lite-On flashed with the iExtreme Burner Max firmware. All went well during the flashing process. I am using Verbatim discs (the ones that can be burned at 4x during this process). On my primary desktop computer, about 8 in 10 end up being coasters, failing to verify at right about 50%. I've tried the burner hooked up to the motherboard's serial ports, a serial to USB adapter, and lastly, with a brand new VIA pci to serial card installed into an open slot.

 

Here's the kicker - If I move the burner over to my laptop and connect it via USB, the process NEVER fails. I run pretty much the same applications on both machines; the only real difference between the two is that the laptop is running Windows 7 Ultimate, and the desktop is running XP Pro - Both are 32 bit OS's, core 2 processors, and plenty of RAM - The desktop has 2GB, the laptop has 4GB.

 

I've removed the SPTD driver from the desktop, uninstalled and reinstalled IMGBurner, and I have none of the dreaded packet-writing filters installed on either machine (at least none that I could find/am aware of).

 

I've attached a screenshot of the IO error that repeatedly pops up at the moment of fail. Got any ideas about what could be causing this increasingly expensive issue? I'm at my wits' end with this issue...

Well, I have this wonderful tool installed on my machines called Rollback RX, which allows me to revert my machine back to a previous time in the exact state it was in at that time, so I decided to try this first. Rolled back all the way to October 1st, just tried another burn and everything worked perfectly (at least the first time). Since this could be the 2 in 10 times that I wasn't burning coasters, I'm still apprehensive; but, I'll be sure to reply back again with a log of the failed burn if/when it should happen again.

Well, I spoke too soon... We have burn failure with the same characteristics. I think I'm going to try and go back a little further, but before I do, here's the latest log... You'll see Arkham City burn and verified directly after the burn, then Ace Combat was burned and I tried to boot it without verifying... wouldn't boot/install to hard drive, so I put it back in the burner and verification failed - ImgBurn was never closed, so the log should be fully intact. Hope you can figure out what might be going on.

I really don't know.

 

It just looks hit and miss because you're overburning discs that simply weren't ever designed for such a thing.

 

Success/failure of a burn should be 100% down to the drive/firmware/media combo being used.

Just wanted to update you...

 

I got a little skeptical with all the bad burns on my desktop, that maybe I just got lucky with the few burns I did on my laptop... Sure enough, the next burn on my laptop failed as well.

 

So I returned the burner and exchanged it for another of the same model. Just got finished with my second successful burn on the replacement, so looks like it was the burner itself all along.

 

I also wanted to thank you for the help and let you know how appreciated your prompt responses were. I was very doubtful that I would get such a quick reply, especially on a Sunday evening, so kudos to you on your exemplary customer service - especially since you're supporting the users of a product that is 100% free. Truly a rare find these days.... I will continue to use ImgBurn and will recommend it whenever I have the chance.
