I/O error, can't close session

First post so hi all,

A friend sent me a disc of him on tv from the states, I put it in my pc/dvd player and it appears the disc is empty. It does look like some data has been written to the disc though.

So I thought that perhaps he hasn't finalised the disc, so tried that with imgburn, but am getting the error below.

Am using a samsung SH-S223C drive with the latest firmware, SB07. I've tried this with a laptop and get exactly the same error.

Disc is memorex dvd-r

I haven't spoken to him to see if the disc played after he burnt it, so could well turn out to be a coaster.

Ok well it looks like *something* has been written to it but it's not much and it certainly hasn't been finished off (closed / finalised etc) properly (or at all) !

You'd have to try closing the track first, then session, then disc.

Try using the sector viewer to see if sector 16 is readable.

When I click close track, I don't get an error, I'm not sure if something is supposed to happen after though? Clicking on close session and disc produces the error that's in the pic above.

As for sector 16 in the sector viewer I get 'illegal mode for this track'

So it's trash and I can use it for target practice with my air riffle?
