Hi everybody !

Been looking around for a solution to my problem but can't get an answer...

I keep getting an I/O error when burning on a dual layer DVD at 50% (see attached screenshot and log).

Some additional information that may help you out:

- iHas dvd burner flashed with ixtreme burner max

- the dvd burner is plugged to a via 6421a PCI card (since I don't have any sata port on my motherboard) with the latest drivers installed from via website.

Thanks for helping me out ;-)

If I understand correctly, since the layer break is different my cheap media is unable to handle the burning task ? So this is not a hardware problem due to my configuration ?

Thanks for the fast reply and your great burning app. I'll post my results within a week when I'll receive my Verbatim.

That's due to your Via card (or its drivers).

If you need to have the drive attached via a PCI card, get one using a Silicon Image chipset (e.g. the Sil3512 chipset).

The alternative is to go USB 2.0 (or 3.0) -> SATA... but then there's always a risk of running into a 'semaphore timeout' issue.

It now managed to write without errors but the "verify" fails, does this confirm the sata card issue ?

Thanks again for helping me out and being so fast with your replies.

Yup, that's another problem between the drive and the card.

It might be one you can clean up by using a top quality (i.e. SATA3) *short* cable between them.

Personally, I'd just forget about using the Via card with that drive.

Hi !

I managed to buy a silicon 3512 chipset and it just works GREAT !!

All my burns are perfect even looking through kprobe, I get excellent results.

Thanks again for your support and reactivity ;-)
