Semaphore timeout followed replaced by equally frustrating I/O message

Hi

I'm using 2.5.6 to burn copies of my xbox games. I've just started with Burner Max using ihas 124b and realise there's much discussion about best quality settings etc etc. However, my problem is slightly different in that I can't get Image burn to complete a write. I put the 24b in the second internal bay in my Dell XPS420 and have now completely disconnected my first DVD drive and swapped the power and sata connectors. I’ve also set eprom and Image Burn as suggested in tutorial.

My ihas is recognised in Windows and Device manager no problem and when I burn an iso in Image Burn I don’t get any truncate messages so know the burner max flash worked. The problem is that I get a variety of these I/O messages. If I use my usbpro to connect sata tto the drive I get the semaphore timeout malarkey so I've had to give up on that. I then tried with the sata connected to the only onboard sata that recognises the drive (the one where the existing DVD drive was connected to). Last night the burn started but the write froze at 32%. It said I/O Check condition, SCSI 1383776-1383807..Write error address blah blah..When I checked the log it came up as invalid address to write but what confuses me is that it occurred 32% of the way through the burn.

Even though I’ve completely disconnected the old DVD drive my PC (DELL XPS420 using XP on dual boot Vista/XP) obviously doesn’t like the set up even though ihas drivers and burner max fw is correctly installed. My XP partition is called E on drive 0, alongside Vista which is C. My ISO images are on drive 1 which is D. When I connect up the ihas the drive is named F by Windows XP. Sounds a bit messy but I’ve never ever had a problem with the old drive with this configuration.

I’ve spent hours researching I/O errors but am getting nowhere. Everyone just refers to XP being crap and getting Windows 7!!

I never use anything other than Verbs 2.4 speed.

Sorry to go on but thought you might recognise something obviously wrong in my set up and suggest a workaround.

I’ve lost the will to live as I can’t burn the XGD3 games even though I have the necessary hardware.

Many thanks for your time.

Simon

You've messed with the eeprom settings... restore them to their default values. (FHT / OHT / OS off, SB on)

If your drive still reports a 'Write Error' after that, try enabling Overspeed in the eeprom settings, clear OPC history and then try burning at 4x.

After that I'd try some MKM-003-00 discs.

Many thanks for swift response. I'll try your settings but am sure I followe dthe consensus on settings to the letter.

Also thought 2.4 Verbs were as reliable as 8 speed.

Thanks again
