I am an intermediate computer user. Win7Prof 64 bit, 4GB, Core2Quad.4GHz.

Just imported my first movie to Studio 14 Ultimate. Burn failed. Went through all troubleshooting tips. Avid suggested deleting the registry line: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VOB\CDRAPP\Recorder and said the system would rebuild it correctly. Except it seems WIN7 does not include that registry entry, at least it is not on my system.

I used Windows Media Player to burn files to disc and works fine with WMP.

Needed to make a dvd so I selected the files within the VIDEO_TS folder for burn using Windows Explorer which gave error message "There was a problem burning this disc, check your firmware (it's current)." I have had the same problem when using Windows Movie Maker.

Pinnacle Forum suggested IMGBURN as a common solution. I selected ImgBurn Build which finished successfully. Then I selected burn image which failed. I looked at the log file and could not interpret the info.

Here is the IMGBURN error msg however:

I/O Error!

Device: [1:0:0] ATAPI DVD A DH16A1P RG11 (D:) (ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02

Interpretation: Check Condition

I have attached the log file. ImgBurn.log

Can you determine if I have a hardware failure or settings issue and a remedy?

Thank you.

Your drive reported a 'Write Error' at the start of the burn.

You may have more luck with your particular drive/firmware/media combo if you slow the write speed down to 8x rather than burning at 'Max'.

Failing that, try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc.

If that still doesn't work, you're probably best off buying a new drive. It shouldn't be having problems burning to Verbatim discs.

I followed your instructions in order and after cleaning the lens the burn worked great! Thank you so much. You suggested the basics which I should have tried first. You are excellent!

Thank you again.
