Fails everytime on 1st attempt

When burning DVDs, UDF Mode1, the 1st attempt fails every time half way through. The 2nd attempt is successful 100% of the time. The next disc will fail again with a successful burn the 2nd time around.

What causes every burn to fail on only the 1st attempt?

Your drive is just reporting a 'Write Error' when trying to burn those discs.

I can't really speak for the coincidental 'always failing 1st time' issue (maybe some sort of built in 'learning' feature of the drive that's messing up?) but I'd guess your drive is always producing low quality burns on the discs and sometimes it totally fails.

Yeah I'm using some leftover double layer inkjet glossy MBI disks. They are Ricoh ID so not the best media.

I'm used to using Taiyo Yuden so this would explain my first time having so many problems and coasters. I'm about to order some FTI Falcon SmartGuard double layers and some Smartguard Glossy BLuerays.

It's too bad Taiyo Yuden doesn't ride their reputation while it's good and develop a better website. Their stock is also horrible. It should be no problem to get watershield dual layer and bluerays from Taiyo Yuden. They only offer 1 type of blueray. I forsee FTI taking over as the king of the media world.
