I'm basically trying to back up my copy of Skyrim (the retail plays fine). I had success doing so prior to LT3.0, but now i get solid results in kprobe2 but fail to verify in imgburn. i keep getting the error:

Failed to Read Sector 2133520 - Reason: L-EC Uncorrectable Error and the game won't progress during the intro scene.

I've ripped with 0800v3, patched with abgx 1.0.6, burnt with a burner max flashed ihas424b drive in an external enclosure.

Settings were:

512mb buffer

Clear opc history and cycle drive

burn proof off

SB/OS/OHT/FHT on.

What i don't understand is where the problem lies. If i'm getting good "burn" results in kprobe, but the image is failing to verify, so does that mean there's a problem with the actual burning of the image or the image itself?

All the documents pertaining from ripping to verifying are attached. Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Your problem is the same as one I answered a day or two ago.

Burning a 'bad' image doesn't make for a 'bad' disc.

You could have a completely useless image file containing nothing but random data and it would (should) still burn + verify correctly.

Getting an error during the verify process means the disc isn't readable in that drive, it doesn't mean it won't be readable in another drive - but it isn't exactly a great sign! The same applies for any results to do with the quality of the burn... they're only really valid for the drive in which the disc was tested. Another drive may find the disc easier/harder to read.

I don't know why kprobe doesn't pick up on the same problem area that causes the drive to be unable to read the sectors around the layer break. It's that kind of thing which reminds me just doing a kprobe scan *is not* enough and that verifying still very much has its place.

i decided to try to burn the image again (haha after 8 coasters) and this time i did so in safe mode. This time around imgburn verified the results and the game played correctly in the flashed console. I haven't ran through kprobe yet (i will shortly) and i will post the results.

Obviously if the only thing that changed what whether or not the verification passed in imgburn then that in itself has to be relevant. Wouldn't you think?

Even if the burner wasn't ultimately going to be the playback device, I'd still want all the discs burnt by it to verify successfully and would ditch the ones that didn't.

It's good that you finally got a decent burn. The iHASx24 B drives are so inconsistent with certain settings, that's why I ended up trying various ones in the iHAS124 B thread in the Drives section.
