Hi,

I'm having a problem burning the Dual Layer discs 'Imation DVD+R DL 8x 8.5GB'

My DVD drive is called: 'SONY DVD RW DW-D22A'

Tried burning at AWS, it got up to 7% before failing. Then tried burning at 8x speed, it got up to 90%... here is the error message that came up:

This is the log text:

I know loads of people have been having the same problem, can anybody recommend anything in particular for my drive / and DL disc I'm using (which I think must be a cheap one)?

Thank you for any help you can give! :)

Your drive is too old to support those discs.

Even with the newer BYS6 ( http://www.firmwarehq.com/Sony/DW-D22A/files.html ) firmware installed, it still only supports the following MIDs.

DVD+R9 supported media types: 8

------------------------------------------

CMC MAG D01-000 2.4x

INFOME D01-000 2.4x

MKM 001-000 6x,4x,2.4x

PHILIPS CD2-000 2.4x

PRODISC D01-000 2.4x

RICOHJPN D00-001 2.4x

RITEK D01-001 2.4x

RITEK S01-001 2.4x

Notice 'MBIPG101-R10-65' isn't on the list.

Thank you very much for the quick reply, do you know how I might be able to identify what product names these 'supported media type' codes relate to? Other than just looking through Google and hoping for the best? thanks again.

Well, if you read this... http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000 you'll notice we only recommend Verbatim discs anyway.

So the only MID you should be interested in is the MKM-001-00 one. You should find that MID being used on all 2.4x speed Verbatim DVD+R DL discs (except perhaps some 'value' range ones).

It might just be better/easier to buy a new drive? No hardware designed for Windows 7 needs to still be using IDE!
