pappy12 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I thought I would try out ImgBurn and I'm having a problem burning from an image file. So I downloaded and installed it tonight from a mirror site. The log is below. As can be seen, it rejects a brand new DVD instantly. I've tried replacing the DVD with a new one but same result. Any idea what it could be? Many thanks! I 00:36:05 ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 started! Cynthia Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 There is no write strategy for that media code in the burners firmware. So it's just using a generic write strategy and that seems to not work to well. Either get a burner that supports that new media code or get some more generic discs like Verbatim.
pappy12 Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Thank you for your reply. I went out to buy Verbatim discs to resolve this issue. I got further and for a while it looked okay, but then there was a write fail again. Here is the log, using the same ISO image file: I 18:23:00 ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Slow the burn down a bit, try 8x or something. You should install the latest firmware update first though. http://www.firmwarehq.com/NEC/ND-3500AG/files.html Don't forget, the drive is probably 6 - 8 years old now. It might benefit from being cleaned. btw, service pack 1 is out for Windows 7.
pappy12 Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 Just courtesy feedback to thank you for the information. Reducing the speed to 6x worked and appeared to write the disc successfully. Although the DVD seems to work fine, I'm still rather confused that upon verifying the disc, it reported missing lots of sectors. Anyhow, besides the verify, there doesn't appear to be any problem!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Did you install the firmware update? Errors during the verify process aren't a good sign. Can you post the log so we can see those too please?
pappy12 Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 Hi there. Yes, I did install that firmware update prior to starting the process. Prior to the firmware flash, it did list the full make and model of the device in 'My Computer' window, but didn't anymore after a reboot. I've posted the log below for reference, but deleted a great deal of the endless list of verifying miscompare sectors to save your eyes (and scroll bar). ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 - Log ; Wednesday, 02 May 2012, 23:50:00 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 23:34:30 ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Ah, that's probably caused by this... W 23:48:13 Session 1, Track 1 is smaller on the disc than it is in the image file. W 23:48:13 Disc's Track Sectors: 1 (TOC Sectors: 1) W 23:48:13 Image File's Track Sectors: 2201760 (TOC Sectors: 2201760) It seems your drive had problems initialising the disc properly. If you still have it handy, could you pop it back in the drive, start ImgBurn in Read mode and copy + paste the disc info text from the box on the right please. Thanks
pappy12 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 Would be happy to! In read mode, the info in the box on the right with this same disc in reads: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG 2.1B (ATA) Current Profile: DVD-RW Disc Information: Status: Complete State of Last Session: Complete Erasable: Yes Sessions: 1 Supported Read Speeds: 1x, 5.6x, 9x Current Read Speed: 3.3x - 9x File System Information: Sectors: 2,201,495 Size: 4,508,661,760 bytes Time: 489:15:20 (MM:SS:FF) TOC Information: Session 1... Thank you for all your assistance, much appreciated!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Ah, this is what's wrong in that info... Track Information: Session 1... -> Track 01 (LTSA: 0, LTS: 1, LRA: 0) The rest looks ok though so it's probably just a firmware bug.
pappy12 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 Actually, I think I may know what it is. I used DVDfab to rip from the original DVD. There is an option on a Navigation panel before ripping to remove annoying PGC warnings etc from the original, thereby altering playback order. I've noticed that selecting this appears to screw up my DVD image, so it could be that. But I'm not sure. Since I started this thread, I've ripped another DVD for testing purposes, without selecting that option, and the image file behaved itself perfectly during the copy and verify using imgburn.

It has no impact on the burning/verify stage. Only when you put the burned disc in a player for playing.
