I have successfully burned two ISOs to the same kind of disc before, using the same settings (including write speed; it rounded it to 2x last time I tried to burn it, too, but that wasn't a problem).

Throughout the burning process, while both buffer bars remained at 100% (apart from the middle bar dropping to 97% or so for a short second or two before going back to 100%), I noticed my write speed was never constant, and went from 0.0x to 2x to 0.0x, etc.. As far as I can remember, this didn't happen for either ISO I burned (i.e. the write speed maintained 2x).

Then, as you can see, it failed to verify at the end. Not sure what I should be doing differently! :(

Is your source file on a USB drive? It looks like you're only getting USB 1.0 speeds.

You're probably wasting your time by trying to burn at 1x, why don't you put it on 8x and see how it goes. If you have to burn at 1x (in reality, 2x) to get a decent burn then clearly you shouldn't be using those discs or drive.

You should install service pack 1 for Windows 7.

Maybe you've got DMA issues then. It's not normal for a drive to burn at 0.6x speed!

Of course I guess it's also possible that the drive was just finding it *really* hard to burn the disc and that's what slowed it down so much.

As for the service pack 1 thing, check its release notes. Microsoft make the service packs for a reason.
