Booktype to DVD-ROM didn't work on Samsung SH-B083L SB01

Hi,

I succesfully burned a personal DVD video on a DVD+R DL medium, but unfortunately I discovered that booktype was set erroneously to DVD+R DL anyway ...

Before burning, I checked that in Tools -> Settings -> Write "change booktype automatically" was checked.

Under Tools -> Device -> change Booktype I tried query status of my Samsung SH-B083L SB01 device, but I got the message

"No way to query current settings !"

I was thinking that this Samsung combo DVD writer by default set book type to DVD-ROM so I can't understand what

I did wrong. I'm asking if ImgBurn 2.5.6.0 has an incompatibility (regarding book-type) whis this particular device.

Can someone answer me ?

Many thanks in advance

Cheers

L.

ImgBurn automatically booktypes DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM on Samsung drives, and, on top of that, the drive should automatically booktype to DVD-ROM by itself.

In the 'Change BookType' dialog, select 'Samsung', then 'Change (For DVD+R DL Media)', then select 'DVD-ROM' and click the button 'Change'. Is it successful or not?

Also, where are you seeing that the burned disc wasn't booktyped? With ImgBurn in Write mode and that disc in the drive, can you copy and paste here the media information text shown inside ImgBurn's window?

By the way, you should install the latest ImgBurn.

Hi,

many thanks for Your help

Before burning my image I didn't try bitsettings since I had "change booktype automatically" flagged in Imgburn and thought that in any case device firmware would have done it automatically.

Following Your suggestion I installed now latest 2.5.7.0, inserted blank DVD+R medium (I have no more DL), tried "manual" bitsetting and ImgBurn reported "Success"

So the question is: is it really changed to DVD-ROM booktype ?

Why this wasn't done automatically by ImgBurn and/or device firmware ?

Many thanks for Your support

Strange as it may seem, 'SAMSUNG' isn't a normal device identifier for Samsung drives and it wasn't in the lookup table for mapping drive names to the different commands used for the booktype/advanced settings stuff!

Curious.

Wouldn't it be possible to add the string SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L in the advanced box and see if it book types then?

The drive uses the Mediatek MT1939LSU controller, also used by LiteOn for its iHES208 BD combo drive.

A rebadged Lite-On?

Looking at this thread - it seems to book type with firmware ver SB00.

For now, sure. :)

But it will be automatic as of the next version.

Hi,

what do You mean ? That with current B01 Samsung official firmware and latest ImgBurn I will continue to have my DVD+R DL not book-typed as DVD-ROM ?

Thanks for Your support

No. Do this in the current version of ImgBurn to trigger the book type function.

Look in this guide http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=6392&st=0&p=66934&&do=findComment&comment=66934

and jump to section 4.2.13.9 Advanced - replace the example in that one with these values:

Select Samsung and add this string

SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L
