DucatiDesmo Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) This is somewhat related to the topic First BD-R DL Burn Attempt Failing - Log Attached... http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=20325&hl=%2Bliteon posted by bbddpp. I tried replying to that topic, but the option was disabled, so I'm starting a new one. I've recently acquired the Lite-on driver in question with the latest firmware and was able to burn 4 cheap BD-R SL 4x by Maxprint (CMCMAG-BA3-000) straight from my external HDD USB without any problems, as well as all DVD DL and SL that I've tried. My system: Intel Pentium® D 2.66GHz 1,98GB Ram Windows 7 32 bits. Yesterday I got 4 Verbatim VERBAT-IMd-000 (4x) and the first thing I noticed was that the driver took over 10 attempts to even recognize all four discs. Nothing happened in the first attempts; I had shut down the computer completely before trying, as well as all the programs, had only the latest version of IMGburn running in the same way I had done when burning the Maxprint discs (I'm from Brazil). After it finally recognized the discs I tried burning BD backup folders I had made and it resulted in I/O error indicating SK Interpretation: Illegal Request. I closed Imgburn without finalizing the disc, and the resultant disc when inserted results in a "incompatible medium installed" on Imgburn. Next step was to close the system again. Upon loading the discs, another 10 plus attempts to recognized all 4 discs, and the same incompatible medium for the trial disc. I then cleared OPC history, enabled OPC before write (I also tried a second time with disabled burn-proof, same results), inserted another disc and gave it a try. After IMGburn did the initial power calibration it returned an error and asked if I wanted to retry or continue. I cancelled, did this twice and gave up, not wanting to potentially waste another disc, even though I'm still not sure if the first one has been lost for good. I noticed that with the Maxprint SL discs as well as with the Verbatim ones, IMGburn only gave me 4X as writing speed, nothing bellow it. My external HDD is defragmented, nothing wrong with it. What could be the problem? I'm guessing bad drive/firmware/media combo. Since BD DL discs are still hard to come by in Brazil, I want to eliminate all possibilities before returning the discs (8 USD each) and exchanging for the TDK BD DL that have been tested with this drive. Can someone please offer advice how to proceed? Thank you very much. Edited September 12, 2012 by DucatiDesmo
DucatiDesmo Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 I have also noticed that there is no compatibility confirmation or test for this particular Verbatim (VERBAT-IMd-000) with the Lite-on 112 anywhere I can find, only for the 6x and 2x versions (VERBAT-IMb-000 and VERBAT-IMf-000).
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Yeah this is a drive/firmware/media combo issue. I'm sure the LiteOn should be able to handle that MID ok. Assuming the discs are up to the normal standards expected, it could be that there's something wrong with your drive. You should probably take it up with LiteOn.
DucatiDesmo Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 Thanks for your answer. I was able to return the Verbatim discs and exchange them for TDK ones. Same problem. Power Calibration failure at first. Then disabled it. Started to write lead-in, after 5 retries I cancelled the operation and did not close session. Now that disc is not recognized, Imgburn says "incompatible media". Have I lost the disc or will I be able to burn it with another drive in spite of the lead-in write attempt? I can see the disc has been burned slightly on the edge of it, and when I insert it Widows does not recognize it, nothing happens. I will exchange my drive for another Lite-on iHBS112 and if that fails then I'll try another brand, but before anything I want to know if I've lost that disc.
