GillRoyale Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) Hi. New to this forum and img burning in general. I'm sorry if my question has been answered upwards of a million times but all of this is chinese to me. I know, I'm a moron, but to be fair, I'm sure most of you are certified geniuses so please bear with me. So, this is my problem. When I open imgburn, I get the "no devices detected" message Im sure you're all familiar with. Thats the last line that shows up in the imgburn log and is preceeded by "imgburn started, my os, total memory, initialising blah blah and searching for said devices". I'm willing to disclose any necessary information. Even my shoe size.I just need you to lead me to attaining it. Don't be surprised at how dumb I am. I might be looking in the mirror with my mouth open for 45 minutes before I realize I'm looking at the wrong tounge lol. Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW, I'm operating from a toshiba satellite a215 on windows vista home premium. If you want to cry for me, be my guest. Just tell me how long you want to cry so I can spare myself the crying for that amount of time. Its a full-time job lol. Oh, and I read the FAQ on this topic. I don't get the secret whatever message. I have a feeling it's all just an issue with my computer. I 20:05:57 ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 started! I 20:05:57 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (6.0, Build 6002 : Service Pack 2) I 20:05:57 Total Physical Memory: 1,963,332 KB - Available: 973,596 KB I 20:05:57 Initialising SPTI... I 20:05:57 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... W 20:05:57 No devices detected! Edited September 27, 2012 by GillRoyale
GillRoyale Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 my f5 key cant take much more! lol not rushing, just making light.
Cynthia Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Sure there is no yellow ! sign beside the "missing" device in Windows device manager?
GillRoyale Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Sure there is no yellow ! sign beside the "missing" device in Windows device manager? Yes. Next to PIONEER DVD-RW DVR K17LF ATA Device. In this devices properties it says, " Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available." I tried clicking check for solutions and after a second of loading, nothing happens.
Cynthia Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Tried to uninstall that device and then restart Windows to let it reinstall that device?
GillRoyale Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Tried to uninstall that device and then restart Windows to let it reinstall that device? Hmmm. Not sure about this. If I do, will windows reinstall it without the windows vista install disk? Or the windows drivers disk?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Yes it'll just reinstall it without you needing to provide anything.
GillRoyale Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Well, i tried the recommended uninstall and reboot to no avail. Nothing has changed. I need this to work, its very important. It's just my luck that nothing can work and be simple like its supposed to, and somehow, this is probably my fault...
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Try to uninstall the controller entry from within Device Manager rather than just the device - i.e. as per the DMA post in the FAQ. You could also try this... http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems
GillRoyale Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 Try to uninstall the controller entry from within Device Manager rather than just the device - i.e. as per the DMA post in the FAQ. You could also try this... http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems Under ide ata/atapi controllers in device manager i have, 3 named ide channel, ricoh memory stick controller, ricoh sd bus host adapter, ricoh sd/mmc host controller, ricoh xd-picture card controller, and two named standard dual channel pci ide controller. which to i uninstall?
GillRoyale Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 btw, i only need this to work so i can reformat my cpu. i dont have the disc anymore and my computer doesnt have the hidden partition so this is my last resort, and my computer seriously needs reformatting. Oh, and to burn a disc of diablo II lol i know, im outdated but i <3 the nostalgia. i see now though that this software has TONS of awesome capabilities that i'll have no choice but to utilize. so i may be spending alot more time on this forum. i love to learn new things.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 It would be the 'pci ide controllers', you can leave the 'ide channel' and 'ricoh *' ones. Did you try the Microsoft 'Fix It' I linked you to?
GillRoyale Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 It would be the 'pci ide controllers', you can leave the 'ide channel' and 'ricoh *' ones. Did you try the Microsoft 'Fix It' I linked you to? Not yet. I planed on trying this method first and following up with that recommendation if this expedition didn't bear fruit. Should I try the link first?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 It's certainly a lot quicker... so yeah, try the link first.
GillRoyale Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 Tried the link and ran the software. "Troubleshooting can not continue because an error has occured. We're sorry, but the program encountered an error trying to contact the server. Please try again later. " So I uninstalled the two aforementioned pci ide controllers and rebooted. Still nothing. I'm ready to cry now. :*(
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 That's probably a firewall issue. What happens if you boot your machine in safe mode?
GillRoyale Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) Well, I got this worked out using regedit and I AM STOKED!!! lol. Thank you for all of your help. I only require one more bit of info from you, and I'm sure you've heard this a million times as well, so please forgive my ignorance, but I'll only have to ask one time. I'd just like to know the best write speed to burn windows vista installer.iso onto a 4.7 gb maxwell dvd/r single sided recordable. I saw something about using 2.4x but I've also seen I should use the lowest speed possble, 1x. Again, I am so greatfull to you for being helpfull and patient with me, and if there's any way I can show my appreciation just let me know and I'll be glad too do so. ...BTW I should tell you now, I'm totally broke lol. I'd assume money is the best form of gratitude but it's beyond my capapbilities and I apologise for that. Believe me, I APOLOGISE . Being broke is a b****. Edited October 5, 2012 by GillRoyale
Cynthia Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Lowest burn speed is not always the best. To find the best one you need to burn at all available speeds and scan the burned discs in a special program to see how high quality the burn was. Not many burners (if none) today that can burn at 1x. A general thumb rule is to burn half of the rated speed the media is capable of. For a 16x disc - select 8x.
