RalliKid04 Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 I am using my laptop to burn a movie that i took on my handycam. everytime it says ' write error' IMGBurn tried 20 times and could not burn on the memorex dvd-r that i had in my drive. What am i doing wrong?
kevdriver Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 RalliKid04, One possibility is that your using bad media, Memorex generally uses CMC MAG dye which is not the best, actually crap, dye there is. Another thing might be that laptop burners are generally a little more finicky then desktop models and your machine may not like the media your trying to burn to. Maybe try some different media. If this happens again could you please post a log so we can see exactly whats happening.

volvofl10 Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 basically, your drive does not like that brand/ink/dye of media. its having difficulty seeing it. a firmware update for your drive "may" cure the problem , but better off getting a good media like taiyo yuden or verbatim
kevdriver Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 As volvo stated media is the problem, your drive doesn't like it. This must be in a HP laptop machine and fairly new since there is no firmware updates for your LG burner yet.

Kenadjian Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Your firmware is way out of date, here is the link, 3.07 is the latest listed. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2005
Rastus2 Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 (edited) I have checked the link you provided and I am concerned that I may botch the flashing on my drive. Can you point me to a "Flashing for Dummies" guide? I am new to all of this and I do appreciate the replies and help. Thanks, Rastus2 Never mind, I have bit the bullet and downloaded the file(s) and they seem to have the info I am looking for, I'm just worried about my skill in this, is all. Shamus_McFartfinger Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Flashing your drive for the first time can be a bit nerve-wracking. (You're lucky they aren't $600 each anymore. That was nerve-wracking). There's a couple of things you can do to make it a little less scary like taking any CD/DVDs out of the drive and shutting down all unnecessary programs (less chance of crashing). Read any documentation that comes with the new firmware if there is any and once you've decided to flash your drive, start the process and let it do its job without playing with the mouse and keyboard. Good luck.
lfcrule1972 Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I remember my first firmware flash too Shamus - I was cacking it as I was just getting into all this, I think in the end all the assurances I got from the regulars over at DVDD ("Do it you nob", "Just f'in flash it" etc) made me take the plunge !! Have done it loads now for my NEC and BenQ drives without any probs.
blutach Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I like flashing. It's in my nature to flash. Regards
lfcrule1972 Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I didn't want to tell everyone that mate Nice you felt you could confess that here tho amongst your friends !!

Rastus2 Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 (edited) I flashed the drive and it shows as the newer firmware, the problem now is every blank disc I put in shows as "not empty" in ImgBurn's tool bar, bottom left. I have encluded the right window from the session. I am using Verbatim DataLife Plus, DVD-R 8-X (up till now, -o- failures) and I should add that I am running ImgBurn in the test mode because os -8- disc failures BEFORE the flashing of my drive. _NEC DVD_RW ND-3520AW 3.07 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD-R Disc Information: Status: Complete Erasable: No Sessions: 1 Supported Write Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x Pre-recorded Information: Manufacturer ID: MCC 02RG20 Edited September 12, 2006 by Rastus2

No, I have purchase ALOT of these and so far I have had great luck with them, no that I am in love with them , they were working, so no need to change. These failures begain when I updated Ripit4forme. I was hoping some one else would know if it was because of Ripit's update. Is there another way to test my burner?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Unless you have a rogue filter driver in your system somewhere, your drive just isn't seeing the discs (any more) in the way you need it to in order to burn them. It's not seeing that there's any free space on them and it thinks the track/session is 'complete' rather than 'empty'. afaik, ripit4me is just an exe. It would take a proper driver to mess anything like this up.
chewy Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 afaik, ripit4me is just an exe doesn't even write to the registry, entry in prefetch, just remembering settings my nec 3550 got a little lint in it(cat fuzz?) saw all burned dvd's as dvd-rw's, still burned blanks ok. blowing it out fixed? go figure
Rastus2 Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 if those are blanks then clean the drive Thanks for the reply on cleaning th drive. What is the proper way to clean the drive?

Rastus2 Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 try reflashing it to the firmware before, maybe the one you got was corrupt Well, I blew it out three more times and re-flashed it and it will burn to 19% each time, then fail. I hate to use one of those DVD cleaners if it isn't a "dirt" issue because I have it that they can scratch the lens.
spinningwheel Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Rastus2; I have used the same cleaning disc for the past 3 years and haven't done a bit of damage. Follow the directions and you shouldn't hurt the drive....
