Hi!

After many DVD-DL well written, today I have opened a new pack from "Ridata" (disk manufacturer is Ritek) and I have toasted the first three... first I was burning an iso image but then I have tried burning directly without saving it as iso first.

My writer is maybe a bit old, is a NEC 3540 with a modified firmware (never had trouble with it before) from http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/

The log file is attached...

In the auto speed list these DVD are saved as RITEK-S04-66

Thanks and ciao!

Giangi

I have managed to fallback to the original Nec's firmware v1.04 but nothing changed: I trashed one more DVD... It looks like my drive doesn't like this media at all!!

I have tried on a HP laptop using a Samsumg drive: it has been burned perfectly! ...only difference is that on my Nec the available speeds are: 4x 6x and 8x while on the Samsung are: 3x 4x and 6x! I have burned at 4x speed

With modified Nec's firmware

Destination Device: [0:0:0] _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A 1.WB (Z:) (ATA)

Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66)

Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 4x; 6x; 8x

With original Nec's firmware

Destination Device: [0:0:0] _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A 1.04 (Z:) (ATA)

Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66)

Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 4x; 6x; 8x

O the HP with Samsun drive

Destination Device: [0:1:0] hp CDDVDW TS-L633N 0300 (Z:) (ATAPI)

Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66)

Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 3x; 4x; 6x

...but the worst thing is that the DVD burned on the Samsung is not readable on my Nec!!! :frustrated: On the compatibility list my Nec should support 8x speed... http://www.ridatausa.com/Portals/0/CompChart/DVDDL/DVDplusR_DL_Compatibility_at_DVD_Burner_05_05_2010_1.pdf

What MID were the disc you've written ok in the past?

Were they RICOH instead of RITEK?

Yes, most of them were RICOH... actually only now, after many years!, I have learned the difference... I guess my device is too old for these new 8x disks... A friend of mine has a not used burner that will give to me for a test, he doesn't remember the brand.

Yes, next time I'll take much more care of the real manufacturer...

Thank you for teaching me something new!

Ciao, Giangi
