I have been unable to burn a dual layer DVD for a while constantly getting "power calibration errors'. The IMGBURN help section suggested using 4x DVDs instead of 8x and re-flashing the drive firmware. I only use Verbatims. Where I shop I found no 4x discs of any brand (all 8x). So I tried re-flashing the drive software and now I have a bigger problem. After re-flashing the drive I lost Dual Layer DVD read support.

IMGburn does not 'see' any dual layer DVD but has no problem with any other disc type (see outputs, below). Single layer DVDs, BDs work fine. Only nonblank Dual Layer DVDs are a problem.Dual layers won't read in Explorere either (please issert a disk ... ).

Cananyone please help me get this problem fixed?

(But if I try to now burn to the Dual Layer DVD I get the same  as I was getting before I strated re-flashing the drive, during which apparently I caused the 'cannot see dual layer DVDs' problem.)

This is nothing to do with ImgBurn. Your drive is having a problem with non-blank DL discs and just reporting the error you see there - "Cannot Read Media - Incompatible format.".

Posted

OK, I gotta agree with that. It's not IMGBurn. But since IMGBurn is the only thing giving me useful clues to the problem, I'm hoping someone here can propose solutions.

I've tried a few registry hacks found google search, etc. No help yet.

I suspect maybe I went too far in device manager removing/reinstall. It was working well except for the power calib errors before that.

It's purely a drive thing...as in, internal to the drive.

Try cleaning it with a cleaning disc.

Do original double layer discs work ok? i.e. a movie DVD

You may have to replace the drive.

Thanks for asking that question. In case it's a clue: my one and only retail DVD9 (DL) disc I happen to have with me IS READABLE.

(The rest of my retails are in a box in a basement halfway 'round the world as backups are on a drive in ISO format (my Oppo will never get it's firmware updated again) or on verbatims.)

So that's hope.

I finally remembered that Dell Quikset fixes the drive eject button doesn't work problem. It didn't fix the DL read problem.

I'm contemplating cleaning the drive. Is it a good idea to put a drive cleaning disk into a slimline? Should I spray the inside with spray duster?

I'll also try resetting the drive region (never done before) to see if something kicks in.

Other ideas???  :-)))))

Yes...No.

If cleaning doesn't work, replace the drive.

OK.

No one in this land of no Amazon knew much about CD cleaner disks but I found one. The drive is now seeing all discs. But it reads DVD-DL and more and others like shit. It IS toasted.
