AmIeviL Posted April 17, 2013 Share Posted April 17, 2013 Hello, I have tried searching for possible fixes to my issue and also read the FAQ's as thourougly as possible, but nothing I try seems to work. So here is my problem. I am using a Samsung SE-506BB(retail name) 6x Blu-Ray burner or as the pc sees it as model# TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB and TS00(firmware) along with Philips BD-R 6X 25GB media (Disc ID: CMCMAG-BA5-000). As you can see, both the burner and media are capable of 6x speeds and ImgBurn even recognizes them as being capable of burning at these speeds and sets itself up to burn at those speeds, however every single time, it maxes out at 2.2x and pretty much stays there. On the upside of this, I have never burned a coaster out of approx. 40 discs burned since I bought the drive in Febuary '13. It is a USB 2.0 external drive and therefore I tried a different usb 2.0 cable(just in case) and since my laptop does not have any USB 1.1 ports, only 2.0 ports and the drivers look right to me, I am at a loss as to why I cannot burn at a higher speed. The drive has complete control over the actual speed it burns at. Yeah the buffers are both full during the entire burn until the end obviously. I also just tried to do a read with ImgBurn (which I had never done) and it also maxes out at approx. 2.2x, does this help give you anymore insight as to anything else that could be wrong? The only other PC I have is on old laptop with only USB 1.1 ports. I do not currently have another brand of BD-R media, but I do have DVD-R media also, would trying this help troubleshoot whether it is the drive or the media or something else? The drive is supposed to write/read DVD-R at 8x speed. I haven't tested DVD's yet, because I haven't had the need, but if this would help narrow things down, I can certainly do it and post the results. AmIeviL Posted April 17, 2013 Author Share Posted April 17, 2013 Well, I just confirmed one thing about my drive/firmware. My read speeds are stuck at 2.2x on my retail Blu-Ray movie discs only, not the backup copies I make of them, so I must have Riplock built in to the firmware/drive. My read speeds still don't reach the full advertised speed of 6x when reading my backups, but they average 3.5x and max at around 5.5x(only momentarily). Now if I could just narrow down why my write speeds are maxed at 2.2x. I do know, that the 2.2x speeds occur no matter what I am burning, whether it is backups of files/folders or Blu-Ray movies. If anyone else reading this post happens to have this same drive, I would love to hear what blank media you are using and what write speeds you are getting.
