Hi All,

Yesterday I purchased a new DVD writer Samsung SH-224DB recognized as 'TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DB SB00 (SATA)'

under windows 7 x64

No matter what media quality i use ( used branded/cheap all sort of media. SONY etc DVD, CD RW) and no matter what I choose to burn (ISO, data files etc...)  I always get same error using imgburn '

as from log .. ( also attached)

Failed to Write Sectors 64 - 95 - Reason: Program Memory Area Update Failure
W 04:03:14 Retrying (1 of 20)...
W 04:03:15 Retry Failed - Reason: Logical Block Address out of Range
W 04:03:15 Retrying (2 of 20)...
W 04:03:15 Retry Failed - Reason: Logical Block Address out of Range
W 04:03:15 Retrying (3 of 20)...

...............

with this windows appearing exactly same for all burns ( attached)

I tried imgburn portable, imgburn 2.5.8.0 installed.  I could not get even one successful burn till now.

configured SATA as AHCI in BIOS

tried different write speed from slowest to AWS

Writer firmware as reported by manufacturer utility is  'SB00'  I think there is an update available but I do'nt want to take risk until cause is confirmed. may be vendor warranty issues if I upgrade firmware

no matter what I do, I get same error !!!

kindly help to resolve issue soon and plz  confirm whether it is Samsung Writer faulty or what?

pulling hair, no single success on brand new Writer !!! all my burning work is pending.

thanks

I am attaching the log again. didn't trimmed the last one but may be i didn't copied

the scrolled up text.

Here it is again attached

I will search and install firmware SB01 just wanna know it would not harm my warranty

(will ask the vendor).

Sceondly can I revert back the firmware if unsuccesfull?

can somebody post the links to get firmwares ( SB00 and SB01 or if higher required) ?

I need to confirm this writer drive for any possible faults, at the moment can't get

hands on a verbatim media. but believe me I tried many media and it gives exactly

same error

waiting for reply

OK I managed to resize that window to get the hidden 'OK' button by lowering the windows DPI settings for display.

and so I was able to upgrade firmware to SB01

after that.... I burned a sample on Sony DVD RW (original) and.... yeah I didn't got the same error this time  :biggrindance:

In verifying phase I did get some read error but that are possibly because my media is a bit old and used up many times.

I will try other media and post results later

so perhaps it is not my Writer faulty  :victory:
