HELP PLEASE!! Wii Backup Problems

MM1978

Recommended Posts

Hi, having been a big fan of ImgBurn for some time now I am very puzzled as to the problems I've been having recently

I have backed up Wii games in the past without any problems at all, but recently I am experiencing the same error time after time. I am using Verbatim DVD-R'S, burning on a HP DVD RW AD-7561S ATA to be precise

I am selecting the correct option to burn the ISO, selecting 4x speed and closing other programmes running when doing so. ImgBurn isn't flagging up any errors during the actual burn, but once the burn has completed I am only ending up with about 1/10 data actually burned on the disc. I know from past experience the data should literally fill the underside of the disc

When I go to play the backup I am unable to. I have no other problems playing other backups that I have made in the past

I have tested the actual burner by burning a DVD movie which was done successfully, adding to my confusion

What am I doing wrong as I am lost? Any help would be very very much appreciated

PS I am getting the warning about the Duplex Secure SPTD Driver come up when loading ImgBurn but have read online that this shouldn't cause an issue. I have also tried changing the way of writing to Incremental as suggested on here

Will do but the log doesn't seem to have much happening or anything as clear error. Have wasted quite a few discs but will use one more to hopefully get to the bottom of this. The fact that the burner done a movie fine has really stumped me or I'd be putting burner in bin

It's easier if you just copy + paste the text rather than posting a screenshot.

You appear to have turned the Verify option off... I need to see the results of the verify process too.

Put the disc back in the drive, go into Verify mode and compare it against that same image file.

If it all comes back ok, there's nothing wrong with the burn. If your Wii can't read it, that's its problem I'm afraid.

You shouldn't need to change the 'Write Type' to 'Incremental'. Put it back on 'DAO/SAO'.

You're in Write mode, go into Verify mode. You're going to be doing this verify operation as a standalone task - as you're doing it after the fact.

Leaving the 'Verify' checkbox ticked in 'Write' mode is enough to at least have the program verify the disc automatically next time you burn one.

Now go through the other discs you've burnt that image to and see where they error out during verification.

It shouldn't make a difference what you burn to the discs, it's not like the drive knows and can be selective as to what it burns successfully or not.

As far as I'm concerned, your drive hasn't reported a single error during the write phase - so it doesn't think anything has gone wrong with the burn. If the disc is then unreadable, there's some issue between the drive and the media.

Can I assume that you're saying you think it's only burning a bit of the disc because the colour of the dye isn't uniform over the entire surface? You're going to have to waste some more discs and do some more tests. Ideally I'd like to see a 'Discovery' mode burn + verify. That'll burn zeros to the entire disc and will soon tell us (me) if the issue is a general one or not.

Hello again LIGHTENING, have had a busy few days hence not looking into this further. I have however now done a Discovery mode test as you suggested

Here is the log from that test, again using a Verbatim DVD-R

What has been burnt looks very similar to the amount burned before, around 1/10th of a normal Wii burn (from decent experience with backups)
