Panasonic 'Taiyo Yuden Dye' 16x speed DVD-R

Recommended Posts

if they're using Taiyo Yudens they must be pretty good .Back a couple of years ago Panasonic were real picky about what discs they would play TY always worked in them

Posted

What dye is it ? TYG03 ?? If so I have used almost 80 of them and not had any problems, the quality score, PI/PIF errors are better when burnt at 12x but even at 16x they are more than acceptable...

I can remember when Panasonic was charging $11 a pop for their DVD-R's with their brand name of them. Let's see if I still have any of the one of two left over from those days.

Indeed, I do! The MID is MEI 00V001 which DVD Identifier says is Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. Had to Google this as there wasn't anything in any newer lists I could find... and still didn't find anything on if this was a good quality brand or not.

yeah its tyg03 and i will be burning them at 8 anyways, ?6.99 for 25. might get 100 of them.

Usually just get cheaper stuff as 4 year old dvds still play fine for me.

Saying that 28 for 100 is still cheap considering first lot of 25 discs i bought cost me 25 quid.

Not that i need any blanks just fancy buying something.

They look ok, I see that it didn't quite reach 16x tho due to the size of the data being burnt but scan looks ok doesn't it ?

Where is the write info from the top graph fella ?

Posted

did not have info pro in at that time well not a version that was compat.

However i was expecting the taiyo to be a bit higher in scan qual.

Seems my new liteon writer cannot scan them as good as it should see below.

these were scanned in with liteon dvd rom on same computer

they stayed at 99.20% most of the way thru scanne at 8x the first scan i p[osted was scanned at MAX setting, till, i saw cornys guide an dropped it to 8 though tbh from the drop down box i thought 8X was the MAX setting.

Also cos your drive doesn't support jitter scanning your quality results are probably a bit higher than they would be if it did.

Funny how your scan appears to continue after the end of the data on the set immediately above ?

benq scan of the first disc i posted pic of

benq1.png

thing is though have heard of poor scans using benq when the disc your scanning was not actually burnt with benq.

Yeah and i know my firmware is ol, just about to update it, have not actually ever burnt a disc using benq yet, so will have to try with panasonic to make sure it works :D

Not liking how my benq is burning look at buffer. compared to liteon at his post

Another burn this time with 4.35 gig of data
Maybe its an issue with the ide channel on new comp i built asus m2n32 sli del as not burnt anything using this combo yet.(only has 1 IDE) bq is master and liteon reader slave, and iso was on 1 of the 2 sata drives.

Maybe someone with benq 1650 can tell me if there device buffer fluctuates this much.

And the scan piccy

part of log , umm write speeds available somewhat diff to my liteon, eg liteon 6,8,12,16 bq 4,8,12,16

Maybe its down to WOPC and the disc, next write i will disable wopc, i also thought this benq was udma 4, i was wrong its 2, still should make no diff as throughput on udma 2 is more than enough.

I just like to see the buffer never move

with wopc off got a faster burn using same iso, though looking at avail buffer 688,128 .... sure 1650 is supposed to have 2 meg buffer.

Does imgburn not display buffer available if WOPC is ON as it seems to be missing from my previous log (EDIT i bet its cos i had debug mode enabled this time)

ukdvdr

Ah, I was tempted for a minute to buy some myself. But not if it involves ukdvdr! I have never had one parcel delivered on time from them and it is all down to the crap couriers they use. I have even offered to pay extra so that they will send stuff by parcel force and they just dont want to know. I live right out in the middle of the country and i'm at work all day and they use a courier whose depot is 40 miles away and that wont leave a parcel without a signature. Parcel Force have a depot a mile away and the thick shits at ukdvdr dont understand why I want to use parcel force! Crap company, crap service in my opinion. Cheap though. :/

By the way I have been using the Panasonic 8x for quite a while and they are pretty good so I might just get some of the 16x if SVP have them, at least I can get the parcels to my house from them! :D

Totally agree with you on that Jack.

Interested in trying these discs myself, but wouldnt touch those idiots with an extremely long barge pole. Had a nightmare with them on an order I placed with them thinking I would save a bit of money on SVP, was made to feel like I didnt have a clue what I was doing (which normally I dont!!! ) and had major hassle getting refunded for the faulty discs. Never had a single problem with the SVP guys.

Whats the general thoughts on compatibilty of these discs in general dvd players as I get a lot of trouble with 16x disc and generally stick with G05 dye which has never failed me. Verbs work well 90% of the time, these be better or not?

well my parcel turn up today at 9.20 am as usual next day delivery using intial shitty link.

I cannot see any company willing to post out stuff like this without a signature. However the parcel farce depot being 1 mile away for you to pick up your goods with you being out during day, you woudl think ukdvdr would realise youhave a point.

I would have bought them from SVP but they are always out of stock when i want to try them.

Other than that ukdvdr have always delivered when they said Next day.

If your order is late they refund you delivery charge.

They do not seem the brightest bunch though.

The buffer when burning with my BenQ DW1655 fluctuates as well donta - not much just at the top I think it hovers around 92% when burning :)
