greenystore Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) Hey, so i have been useing ImgBurn for xbox discs and everything was great until i had this I/O error some while ago, when i downloaded the new ImgBurn. I did try different settings and everything i found in different forums, but nothing did work. Some "specialists" were saying that my drive is dead and i need to buy new one, however i didn't believe them. I found one post that said i just need to USE older version of ImgBurn and that worked. I was able to install 10 of 10 games again just for that advice until yesterday when I/O error found me again, but now on the older ImgBurn version. Now i failed to write about 15 disks (3 different games, tried to redownload games) and i don't know what could be the problem. I tried using different settings (for example changing MB amount at buffering size, choosing turnicate and overburn and others), speeds (2x; 2,4x; 4x) and there is three % at which my ImgBurn fails with I/O error - At 0%, at 20%, or at 46-50%(the most) so the error logs are different most of the times. I'm using only Verbatrim DVD+R DL disks My task manager is clear and ImgBurn set to "High priority", nothing is running at the same time. I'm talking about XGD3 games. My burner's firmware is okey. "Verify" and "Perform OPC Before Write" is unchecked. Did try to clean drive and discs from dust. Did try to use 3 different computers, but even two of them did work before and one i have tried to use for first time, now none of them works. I do use Abgx360 before running ImgBurn. Abgx360 is running fine, no problems. Please help me to resolve the problem. And please don't say that i need to buy new drive, because i believe that is not the problem. LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 You need to post the log please, as per the pink box up the top of the forum.
greenystore Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Sorry for that. I just didn't wanted to post logs, because they are different depending on what PC i use, ImgBurn settings, program version and writing speed. LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 You're using UME discs, not verbatim MKM-003-00 ones. Don't believe the rubbish you read on the internet about different setting. The defaults work fine. A 73mb buffer is ridiculous and you've never needed to specify the layer break position in the settings. The correct value is read from the .dvd file. Put the setting back on 'calculate optimal'. Obviously you know your hardware is no good for burning xgd3 sized images correctly.
greenystore Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Hmm, could you post where to find default settings? I don't know because so many people claim to post "default" settings for XGD3. Yes, my disks are also Verbarim DVD+R DL, but they ar not Singapure ones so they have different ID. Okey, i will try to do with "calculate optimal" for layer brake when i will switch to default settings. Gardware is good enough. I know it because it's testen on 100+ xbox games including XGD3. I found this very weird and maybe it's important for software developers - 2 days before this error first found me when i did burn Battlefield Hardline CD1. After that i did try to burn CD2 with the same PC, settings and did burn successfully like the many other games before. But now the error gets up with every disks and every game (did try 3 different) So my next steps will be, to get right default settings after i re install ImgBurn, will try to set to "Calculate Optional" and will post the results. Please send me the link to right "default" settings.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Uninstall the program and reinstall it. That'll give you the default settings. You won't get decent burns until you're using the correct media. Nowhere really recommends anything other than MKM-003-00 discs. It's nothing to do with being from Singapore or not, yours are a totally different MID, lower quality and drives simply won't have been fine tuned as much as they have over the years for burning MKM stuff. Do not buy the value range / life series. Do it properly or don't do it at all, you'll just be wasting your money.
greenystore Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 I know that MKM-003-00 discs are only ones that are recommended. I'm just saying that that my discs are also Verbatrim DVD+R DL, but the ID is different because they are from different factory not Singapure's. The same company made them with the same tehnologies, but in different factory location. And i can guarantee that they did work just great with no problems. As an example these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-pack-Verbatim-DVD-R-DL-8X-Dual-Layer-Printable-8-5GB-Double-Dual-Layer-D9-/261845058593?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf72e8421 http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-pack-Verbatim-balnk-printable-DVD-R-DL-8X-Dual-Layer-10-Discs-DVD-R-dl-8-5GB-/391080194920?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b0e323368 Hmm, okey i did reinstall ImgBurn, so i now have default settings, however they didn't work for me before. Should i even leave "Verify" and "Perform OPC Before Write" checked as they are?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 You aren't going to convince me or anyone else that UME discs are the same as MKM ones, they aren't. The actual settings aren't going to make your drive any more capable of burning those discs. It's erroring out and reporting a 'write error', so obviously it doesn't like something about them. If you've cleaned it and ensured its firmware is up to date, there's little more you can do. Get another drive and hope it likes the discs you're using or give the proper MKM discs a go. If they also fail, you'll know for sure that it's the drive. What do you expect to happen by unchecking the verify box? Not checking the disc for errors doesn't mean they just go away. Personally, I'd rather know there's a problem. The 'perform opc before write' option rarely makes any difference.
greenystore Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 I'm not trying to convince anyone that these are the same discs. I'm just saying that i also have Verbatrim DVD+R DL. I don't know how it works, but few years ago it did solve some problems. I know that my hardwire works with these discs, because i did burn 100+ games before. Even did the same game, other disc and then the error. So i tried to burn with default settings. This time error at about 35%. Here is the log. I 22:31:11 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I believe you when you say you're using verbatim discs, you're just using the wrong ones. It's no longer enough to simply say 'buy verbatim dvd+r dl discs' as they've started farming out production to other manufacturers. You need the verbatim dvd+r dl discs made by MKM with the MKM-003-00 MID / dye. Your log shows your drive errored out with another 'write error', hence what I said in my previous post still stands.
greenystore Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 So you think that i need to change drive and discs? Even if i guarantee that i been using this pc and the same discs for very long time with no problems. Games like GTA5, Far cry 4 with 0 problem.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 What you're burning makes no difference, it's not like the drive knows what it is. Data is data. You either have normal sized images or you have oversized ones that you either truncate or have certain hardware that can over burn them. You aren't even getting to 50% so size isn't an issue here. Your drive just flat out has an issue with the discs. As per a previous post of mine, you can change the discs to MKM-003-00, buy a different drive or both. I'd go the media route first. If the MKM-003-00 work, you're sorted. If the drive still fails to burn those then you should buy another drive. Buying another drive that doesn't need to truncate the images is a good idea anyway.
greenystore Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Well, thank you for your advice and time, however i am sure that problem is somewhere else not the discs nor drive, because as i said i have been successfully burning so many games with the same pc and discs, so problem is not there. Could you please post link where you buy cheap discs and where i can download older ImgBurn version?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 If you're just going to ignore what I'm saying, no, I can't.
greenystore Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Sorry, i'm not ignoring what you say. I take your advice, however i am sure that it can be done with pc and discs i have, because as i said, i did it 100+ times, with older ImgBurn version and not using default settings, and i'm sure it can be done again with the same drive, media and your wonderful program. Maybe there is some kind of virus that is preventing from successful burning or something else. I don't know and i'm not blaming you for my problem, i'm just saying that i know it can be done without buying new drive nor media as before. Sorry if i offended you. Could you please give me the links?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 You're totally ignoring what I'm telling you. You aren't willing to entertain (even for a second) the idea that different disc might produce different results. I can guarantee an old version isn't going to help. The software has nothing to do with success / failure of a burn, it simply sends data to the drive. If there's a problem with doing that in a particular version, it would always fail... for everyone. The drive (and its firmware) are in charge of the actual burning of the media. Hence why firmware updates are what add support for newer MID codes and improve burn quality on existing ones. You can't apply the 'it worked once, it'll work again' attitude to burning. Hardware gets dirty, deteriorates etc and the quality of discs can vary from spindle to spindle, disc to disc. If you're concerned something is messing with your burns, boot into safe mode and see if your drive still errors out burning those discs. The ImgBurn mirror on the download page has all the old versions, you'd just need to adjust the link for the version you require (a manual job).
greenystore Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 I think you don't understand me. I do understand that different drive and media should produce different results, but i'm saying that problem is NOT in my drive nor the discs. I'm not saying "It once worked". I'm saying it worked 100+ times with success rate about 19/20. I repeat my drive and media works just fine and problem is somewhere else. "If you're concerned something is messing with your burns, boot into safe mode and see if your drive still errors out burning those discs. " <--- Well that was the best advice you gave me. Thank you so much! It did work. and i did burn successfully 3 more games, 5 discs. So i guess i will need to reinstall Windows, so i could do it in normal mode not just safe mode. BTW, i also did uncheck "Verify" and "Perform OPC before write". So i was right, i have some virus or stg that causes errors and my media and discs are good. Here is the log.
greenystore Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 Shit, i didn't save the notepad text (just empty file) and i run out of discs. Does these logs saves somewhere on my pc, so i could copy? If not i will wait for new disc order and then i will post successful log. But this time i did order from somewhere else, however they might be the same discs that are 3 times cheaper then from Singapure with ID MKM-003. Can you post a link where from you order? I found place cheaper then i can find on Ebay or Amazon.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 You can access the auto saved log via the help menu.
greenystore Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 I see only last one, but that wasn't for game. Can i see more than one?
