I have searched the forums, but have not found any threads addressing the "multi-burn" problem I encountered. (Sorry if I missed it) I am attempting to burn multiple movies with IMGBurn; I loaded 2 ISO files previously created with shrink into IMG Burn queue, selected 2 different drives, & loaded the media. I then started the process & went away for awhile. Upon returning, I found the following error. I cannot determine the cause of the error... Any help?

The first movie I loaded in the queue burned okay; this is the log from the second one that was in the queue;

I have read the guides for doing the multiple burning, & as far as I can tell, I am doing exactly as outlined in them. :ermm:

check your chipset drivers are the newest, your drive should be shown as ATA not SCSI, and update your firmware

Yeah, firmware updates are a must these days. (Update the program too while you're at it!)

4x on TYG02 is weird, it's as though the drive isn't seeing the media for what it really is.

In any case, the error returned here by your drive was a rather generic 'Write Error'. Obviously it just didn't like *something* about the media and the way it was burning.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate it!

Both of the burners that I was using are on a Rosewill pci/ide card; Setup as master/slave. I didn't give that a thought, but I wonder if that may have caused the problem?

This is 8x media; however, I always set it to burn at 4x.

@LUK; thanks for the awesome programs!

It's just my opinion but 8x media (especially Taiyo Yudens) should burn fine at 8x :)

I don't restrict mine and the results are excellent.

What I was getting at was this:

I 13:52:46 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: TYG02) (Speeds: 4x)

Your drive only thinks it's 4x media.

You are of course free to set the 'write speed' to whatever you like, the drive will still only burn at 4x though.

Out of interest, what chipset is on that pci ide card? Silicon Image 680, ITE8212 or something else?!

Rosewill PCI IDE Card

I have (2) Benq 1650's, & (2) Benq 1655's; I set them all to burn at 4x.

Out of habit from the "old" days, I have always set my burns at 4x; maybe it is time to speed things up a bit! :)

I have been advised in the past by chewy to put the optical drives on the mainboard connector, & put the HD on the controller cards. Apparently he has exp. with these setups, & controller cards can cause problems when optical drives are connected to them.

That is something I guess I need to do, to eliminate potential problems.

You'd be ok with optical drives on that card, it supports them - it uses the Silicon Image 680 chipset I mentioned in my previous post.

Up until a few days ago I had one in my machine too - It has now been replaced by the ITE one as that works better for me.

Just ensure you're running the latest driver:

http://www.siliconimage.com/docs/680_x86_12251_logo.zip

and the latest bios:

http://www.siliconimage.com/docs/BIO-00680A-x10.zip

flash bios update tool:

http://www.siliconimage.com/docs/SiI3x12A-...20Utilities.zip

Use the non raid bios if you don't have HDDs on the card, it's then even better for running optical drives from.

Ok, I am just a wee bit confused here; So, what you are saying to do is;

1. Update to the latest driver.

2. Update to the latest BIOS.

3.Run flash bios update tool.

Do all in that order? I always get nervous when flashing firmware/BIOS, etc., so I want to make sure I am about to do it properly. I guess what is confusing me is #2 & #3. Seems kind of like the same thing...

thanks, katzz :)

No, use the flash bios tool to update the bios. Normally the flash tool comes with the bios.... not in this case it doesn't, you need to download a separate file :)

When you've done the bios, install the latest driver.

Thanks much, LUK!

I will proceed with your instruction & keep you posted on how it all works out.

cheers, katzz :)

Well, after spending most of the day trying to get this worked out, I decided to put things back the way they were. I could not get the BIOS update to work for the card. Read all the info. on how to do it, & I guess at this point I am suffering from info. overload, because whatever I tried, it just wouldn't work! :(

BIOS update, even the driver file update I couldn't get to work. So to make it easy, I just put the pata drives back on mobo IDE1, & the (2) 1655's on the controller card. I ripped a couple of movies & burned one, & all seems to be working ok. Maybe if I feel like taking on a challenge in the future, I may tackle this again at some point.

Thanks to all for the assistance!

Really, you couldn't get it to work?!

You just need a dos bootable floppy (can be made in XP), copy the flash tool and the bios file to it (the non raid one).

Run the flash tool, give it the name of the bios file and it flashes it.

That's pretty much how all flashing works!

For the driver, you obviously already have one loaded in Windows so you just go into device manager, find the silicon image scsi controller, right click, update driver and point it to the folder you extracted the new driver to (or maybe the winxp folder inside that).

It should all be pretty basic / straight forward stuff.
