Sir Smokealot Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Hey guys, i'm new here and a bit new to DL burning. I did lots of research before i started, but i have no idea what to do now. LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 This one is pretty simple....don't use anything other than Verbatims for DL burning. Ok, they do cost more but at least they work!
Sir Smokealot Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 (edited) Lol yeah, i know. Verbatim is an awesome brand, but i don't have any lying around right now and needed to check. I used 'Ridisc'. It's total crap but i didn't think it would be THIS bad. So you are sure it's a format problem? I saw the I/O thing and thought "Omg don't let it be a power issue!". And thanks for the fast reply, and replying in the first place I think it's great work you guys are doing here, i wouldn't know what to do without you, and i'm sure i speak for millions more when i say that. Edit: Forgot to mention, i got a new NEC/Optiarc DL burner, so that's why i needed to check quickly and got the I/O error. Edited November 29, 2006 by Sir Smokealot
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 So you are sure it's a format problem? It's a media problem. CMC MAG disks are garbage. Save yourself some pain and toss them into the bin.
Sir Smokealot Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 Lol, with pleasure! But anyways, i went out and bought a better DL DVD. The only ones they had was 'Imation', they said they ranked somewhere in the top 10 of DL DVD's, but i'm still getting the I/O error. Luckily though, i typed it over in notepad, so here's the full message: I/O Error! Device: [0:10] Optiarc DVD RW AD-7173A 1-01 (D:) (ATA) ScsiStatus: 0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition CDB: 2A 00 00 1D AF 20 00 00 20 00 Interpretation: Write {10} - Sectors: 1945376 - 1945407 Sense Area: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 0C 00 00 00 00 Interpretation: Write Error Also, another funny thing is, this time i got the error at 51%. Even though i know for 100% all the settings are correct, could it be it won't burn in the next layer or something? I did have this thing with the IMGburn book settings were i could only choose between 'Normal' and 'DVD-ROM' (the lower field: New Setting) the upper field allowed me to choose 'DVD +R DL Media' perfectly fine. This 'Imation' brand is supposed to be good too. Yet i still get this darn error. I'll post the log just to be sure. If this is utter crap too, then i know enough In any case, thank you so much for your help, i really appreciate it! Captains Log, stardate 1687651: I 16:09:41 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! spinningwheel Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 The only ones that produce good media is Verbatim at the moment. I don't know what difficulties the other manufacturers are facing, but for consistenty good burns you'll need Verbs. I 16:10:50 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D00-01) (Speeds: 2,4x) Your Imations are made with/by Ricoh and they are not the quality that the Verbs are.
Sir Smokealot Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 (edited) You mean those 'Imation' discs right? K then, i know enough. Still weird it stopped at 51%, i hope it's not having a problem burning in DL. Though the other discs only went at 20-30%. Anyways, thanks a lot for your help everyone. I'll be stocking up on Verbs this Saturday, and then i can only hold my breath and hope it won't give me the same error. I really don't want to have a DL-Burning switching problem. Thanks again! LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I've done about 60 Verbatim DL discs in that very same drive without 1 failure. So if your drive fails on those too, RMA it!
Sir Smokealot Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 Yay! I finally got it to finish one. I tried setting it to write x2.4 and it finished a disc! But naturally i am challenged with yet another obstacle. When i put the disc in my Xbox 360, it reads the disc as a DVD. Better yet, i get the message "To play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console", gave me a nice laugh tough, despite the waste of 10 bucks for 2 discs already (ouch). I tried searching Google (i always try to figure things out myself first, i kinda see asking for help as 'cheating'), but once again couldn't find anything particulary useful. I know i must be really annoying you guys, and i want to thank you for your patience so far. If anyone knows what i did wrong or how to solve this it would be much appreciated. Though i certainly wouldn't blame you if you didn't bother with me

Sir Smokealot Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 (edited) That's okay, i have a Samsung drive (i planned ahead ). And my setting in IMGburn is also set to 'DVD-ROM'. Before i started burning i read as much as i could, set everything up step by step, and triple checked everything. I just checked again just to be sure, and everything is in order. I have no idea why the 360 reads it this way. In the tray-status it simply says 'DVD'. So it does read it as a DVD, but it gives me the message that normally would appear when trying to read an Xbox 360 game on a PC or something. I'm at a loss here =/ Edited November 29, 2006 by Sir Smokealot
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Setting it to 2.4x wasn't why it worked, it just would have worked anyway. Your drive only supports those discs at 2.4x so it wouldn't have mattered what you'd set it to, it would always burn at 2.4x. Sorry to be a pain but this forum isn't the place to ask questions about why your disc isn't working in your 360. Obviously 360's aren't meant to play backups as standard and we don't talk about anything naughty here!
Sir Smokealot Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 Well, as far as i know it's not a problem to use a backup of a game as long as you're in possession of the original game. Modding a console is also completely legal. At least, our laws permit it. Anyways, the funny thing is my 360 does play a backup from a different game, but someone else backed it up for me, and i won't be able to speak to him any time soon...
lfcrule1972 Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Well here in England I am pretty sure that modding consoles is not legal, there have been a number of court cases on it and I think the Conglomerate Nazi's won out........ I am sure you are already a member of one somewhere but there are a few X Box modding forums out there - a Google search might turn one up for you. Our help is done here really, you managed to burn a disc in the end altho I don't think the RiDisc DL's will help your cause much (repeat after me, Verbatim DVD+R DL's only, Verbatim DVD+R DL's only, Verbatim DVD+R DL's only...) so the problem with the playback of your game cannot be looked at here. Good luck with the Google Search...
