jgr Posted January 14, 2007 Share Posted January 14, 2007 Hi - I am new to burning discs but have read your guides, which is how I have managed to actually burn a disc, but it is only recognised by my PC and not my standalone dvd player. I also read your FAQs and forum, and have made a few changes and retried with the info I had found there. I started trying to burn to Panasonic DVD+R's but turned them into a great set of coasters, so changed to Verbatum DVD+RW to solve the prob. Basically I have created a VIDEO_TS file containing my .IFO and .VOB files. I have then used ImgBurn to create an .ISO file in the BUILD mode, and then used the WRITE mode to burn it to disc. I have now got this far with the +RW's but the +R is a non starter. However, my problem (after this longwinded ramble) is that once I stick the disc in my DVD player it just hums and then says 'no disc'. What have I done wrong or is it just that my DVD player (SONY DVP-S525D) is to old to realise that homemade discs could ever become a reality. kevdriver Posted January 14, 2007 Share Posted January 14, 2007 jgr, your log looks okay. That Sony DVD player your using is quite old and may not recognize RW format discs. Why don't you go buy some Verbatim 4.7gig -R blank media and do the burn again and then try playing it in your sony. Let us know what happens. jgr Posted January 14, 2007 Author Share Posted January 14, 2007 Thanks for the speedy response - is it that hit & miss - ('scuse the dumb question) what difference does the + / - make..?? Also what is the best way to format the disc - when I was using the +R's ImgBurn didn't recognise them until they were formatted. I did this using Explorer under the DLA - do the discs need finalising in any way, as when I was formatting I saw another option 'make compatible' but wasn't sure if to use this. (it doesn't seem to be available when using the RW) Is there an option to format in ImgBurn - couldn't see one but may well have missed it... this would be great as the rest of the functions I have seen are V intuitive. p.s. - just like to say how good the guides are on this site.... lfcrule1972 Posted January 15, 2007 Share Posted January 15, 2007 I think Kev was saying that it's possible your standalone player doesn't like DVD+RW discs..... Personally I would go with his suggestion of getting Verbatim DVD-R discs or Taiyo Yudens as for me they have been compatible with every player I own. dontasciime Posted January 15, 2007 Share Posted January 15, 2007 the dvd rw you used from media id is very good quality it also had the best chance of playing as book type was set to dvd-rom. Try some good quality dvd-r burned at 4x, if that fails time to get a cheap dvd player that plays copies as some of the older branded big named players like sony, lg etc refuse to play backups. Followed said advice - Verb DVD-R's purchased, and have just rebuilt my iso file, having changed the setting for media type to -R, and then burnt the file to disc....... .....and as you expected "first attempt = first SUCCESS" THANKS AGAIN..... p.s. I hope others find this log useful... if only to prove that a) the process is actually not as complex you first think.. use the guides 'cos they are first class, and read the FAQ's c) if all else fails just ask.!!
