When I try to do a full erase on my DVD+RW using my NEC drive, I get the below error. What other information do you need?

However, this error does not happen with my Lite-On drive...

How is the drive connected? Optical drives don't work very well when connected to RAID controllers.

I have a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboard. The NEC drive is hooked up to the IDE port (there is only one on my motherboard) on my motherboard. I am not sure why it is showing as a SCSI device. However, my Lite-On is connected to my PCI IDE controller card (but it is not a RAID card).

I'm not sure why it's showing as a SCSI drive either. Obviously, it shouldn't. Have you tried swapping the drives around (like putting/adding your NEC on the PCI card)? How many drives have you got (in total) and what are they connected to?

It would appear your drivers or something are simply blocking the command used to format a DVD+RW disc. Nothing I can do about that so far as the program is concerned.

OK, I switched the NEC with the Lite-On and the problem follows the slot and not the DVD Drive. ImgBurn works fine using my DVD drive with my PCI to IDE card. The issue is with the IDE port on the motherboard.

So, is there a problem with my IDE slot on my motherboard then? Should I be worried about this since it is a new board? Also notice it is still showing us as a SCSI device when it is actually on my IDE port on the motherboard.

I wonder what other issues I could have with this IDE slot on my motherboard...

you need to set your bios for ide not raid

and remove the raid drivers if any and update with the new ones I linked to in the other thread

his went from scuzzi to ata

his motherboard was a similar one

OK I did a complete fresh install and did not install Gigabyte's Raid drivers. So why should I use the drivers that you suggest? Are they better than the Microsoft drivers? BTW, my drives are not showing as SCSI anymore! :)

I am just learning here...

So, I would get no advantage in system performance to use the drivers that chewy suggested versus the MS drivers?

And once again, thanks for all the help! What a great product!

Hey jthomas.........., I was getting the same error using an Asus 965 Intel board. I think your Gig board is 965 based also. The other "symptom" I had was, I couldn't flash a firmy upgrade to the drives.

Anyhow, the Asus has the single "JMicron" IDE port that can also be config'd as a RAID port. Even if you config the port as IDE in the BIOS, installing the RAID driver off the MoBo CD will "alter" the port & make the optical drives plugged into it show as "SCSI". I think if you choose the one click install on the MoBo CD, you WILL get the RAID driver, even though you don't need it.

I went into Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, & uninstalled "JM RAID". Rebooted the 'puter & it plugged & played the port as well as the optical drives, now correctly configured.

I think you could've done the same thing rather than a reinstall of the OS.

Have a nice day!!

I guess my question was should I use the drivers that Microsoft provide for the IDE controllers or download Chewy's JMicron driver and install. What is the benefit of using the JMicron driver over Microsoft's driver.
