Hi.

I'm trying to burn a ps2 ISO on a DL disc. The web tells me I need to set the book type to DVD-ROM.

I go to the change book type dialog, select NEC, and in both 'Drive (For DVD+R DL Media)' and in 'Drive (For DVD+R DL Media - Temporary)', the current setting is DVD-ROM. However, on the main screen, the book type is still DVD+R DL.

My firmware version is NEC ND-3570A 1.11, it's an NEC drive, and the disc is RICOHJPN, the only one I was able to easily obtain here in the outback (Israel).

Any ideas?

official NEC firmware only supports bitsetting for Dual Layer +R media it does not support single layer media(+R) .You could use Liggy and Dees firmware which is a modified NEC firmware and it will support bitsetting

But, like I said in my post, it was a dual layer +R DVD (DVD+R DL).

Alas, even after I burned it, it's identified as that rather than DVD-ROM.

Is there a point in trying again with the same type of disc and the modified firmware?

you could use the L&D modified it wont hurt anything , or retry the settings again when you burn another DL, you should know that flashing it to a modified firmware voids whatever warranty the drive may have(pretty sure its up on that model) but the NEC can be flashed back to stock FW. I've flashed my 3500 a few times and restored it to original with binflash. Liggy and Dee specialize in the NEC's and do an excellent job

can you post a log of the burn next time with all the info in it

Huh. It does say DVD-ROM in Last Recorded.

The disc doesn't work on my PS2, though there could be plenty of other reasons for that...

Here's the log, anyway, in which the only mention of either DVD-ROM or DVD+R DL is that it says the destination media type is DVD+R DL:

Plce the newly completed disc in the drive, open IB and look at the right side window after it reads the disc, what does it tell you the disc is?

If it says 'DVD-ROM' in the last recorded section, that's correct and bitsetting has worked.

You're worrying about nothing :)

I expect the problem lies elsewhere with that particular game. It's not often you get DL PS2 games and when you do, you can't normally make copies of them. That of course is not something to discuss on this forum though, it's better suited to a PS2/Console forum.

Granted. Why does it erroneously report it as DVD+R DL, though? What it looks like to me, from my complete layman's perspective, is that it thinks it changes the book type to DVD-ROM, but actually doesn't. Since, like I said, the program reported the drive was set to change it to 'DVD-ROM' to begin with, but it didn't show up in the program.

get dvdinfopro http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

install then click on media with the disc you wrote in the writer you wrote it in.

then paste the info

the same can be done from right hand panel in ImgBurn after you scroll down to bottom

the problem is either with the brand of media or your ps2 or the fact that maybe that game knows what your trying to do

actually just noticed the other post so check out the other forums

DVD+R DL, I'm afraid. Even though the Last Recorded is indeed DVD-ROM.

what you're looking at is IB reporting that the media is in fact DL and that is correct ,when you burn the disc with bitsetting enabled it then makes it dvd-rom ,look at Spinners post .

Take the disc you burned put it in whatever you use to read your discs with and from the IB window copy and paste the info so we all can also see, you do report its dvd -rom so the drive did its job and you're worrying about nothing

It doesn't matter what you're reading from various other parts of the program, the only one you should be looking at so far as bitsetting working/not working is concerned is the info in the 'Physical Format Information (Last Recorded)' section.
