Problem in playing ImgBurn'ed movie on DVD Player.

Recommended Posts

I have this movie on a DVD+R disk, that I am trying to make a backup of, into a DVD-R disk using ImgBurn. The source disk works fine on my laptop as well as my DVD player. The backup disk works fine on my laptop, but does not work on my DVD player. When I say does not work, the symptoms are various, like:

- There are those rainbow colored bands going across the screen at various places.

- Sometimes the audio gets cut off.

- Sometimes the audio is not in sync with the video.

- Sometimes the video just freezes up, after playing for 5-10 minutes.

- Sometimes the DVD player is stuck at the initial "Loading" screen itself.

- Sometimes if I skip the inital 15-20 minutes of bad recording, then everything seems to be working fine.

I still haven't got a singe DVD disk that plays flawlessly on my DVD player, from begin to end. All, I have to show for my effort is a bunch of coasters.

My laptop is a brand-new Everex VA4103M running Windows vista Home Basic. My DVD player is a Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 player. This is the very first time that I burning DVD disk on the laptop. I like the Cyberhome DVD player, since this is one of the very few that I have found, which can play anything that you throw at it. Except, now I find, that it cannot play the DVD disk that I am burning.

There is no encryption on the source disk. I can make a backup copy of the same source disk using Nero (trial version) and this plays fine on the DVD player. Rather than paying $70 to get Nero, I would prefer to use ImgBurn.

During my Google search, I read that if the audio and video is not in sync, then burn the DVD at the lowest possible speed, and that is what I have done. In one of the ImgBurn screen, it showed that the lowest speed for my media is 2.4x and so I have been consistently burning the DVDs at 2.4x.

I have gone through all the guides listed in the "ImgBurn Support Forum > General > Guides" forum. I have gone through all guides that I could find on videhelp.com. Burned using those guide and I have created some more coasters.

From my source disk, I created an ISO image as well as a backup of the whole disk (including the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders) onto my hard disk. This was done just to eliminate any problem that could happen with buffering, etc. from the laptop's DVD drive. Using both the ISO image and VIDEO_TS folder, I have tried various ways of burning the movie, but none of them seem to be working.

I tried burning the same movie on a different DVD+R disk, the result is still the same.

I tried burning a different movie on the DVD-R disk, the result is still the same. I don't have any other DVD burners available, unless I go and buy a new external DVD burner.

I searched in this forum and I found that the DVD media that is recommended is either Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. So, other than getting those media, is there anything that I can do with my existing media to resolve this problem?

Below is the ImgBurn log file from my latest burning adventure:

clean the lens on home dvd player, set booktype to dvd-rom(got a feeling that drive will not allow this without hacking he firmware)

get some good quality dvd-r and try buy another home dvd player and get a yamada or Umax also try and get one that plays [mpeg 4/ divx/xvid and has hdmi] everything i put in brackets would be optional and only suggested so as not to have to replace your dvd player again within 2 years.

You would have to be certain that the source files are good.

It's already booktyping to DVD-ROM:

I 15:04:29 Source Media Type: DVD+R (Book Type: DVD-ROM) (Disc ID: MCC-004-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

Taiyo Yuden and/or Verbatim media may help, but I think the problem is your DVD player. I've had the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 and mine barely played pressed DVDs, didn't play DVD?R and didn't even recognize CD-RWs/DVD?RWs. At the time I had bought 2 brand new units and they both had the same problems. I've returned them and bought a Philips DVP642K (which is old now) and this one plays any media you throw at it, plus it has support for DivX/XviD.

Cross posting, hijacking some other thread is not a good net-iquette.

Anyways, thanks everybody for all the suggestions. For some odd reason, I never considered the idea that DVD player could be the culprit.

So yesterday, I again burned the movie on a DVD-R disk, tried playing it in the Cyberhome DVD player, it did not work. So I took the same DVD disk to a different DVD player, its one of those Magnavox TV-DVD combo thingy. The DVD disk works great in this combo DVD player, no skipping, no rainbow bands across the screen, etc.

So, I guess the Cyberhome DVD player is the culprit. Their manual says that it can play both DVD-R and DVD+R disk. My source disk is a DVD+R disk, and Cyberhome is able to play it fine. For some reason, its not able to play the DVD-R disk. Before totally giving up on the Cyberhome DVD player, I might try getting some other brand DVD-R and DVD+R disk, and give it a try.

Thanks for all the help. At least, now I know where I should concentrate my effort on. I have been wasting all my energy trying to burn so many DVD disk, using different settings, different software, etc. under the assumption that there is something wrong with the burning process.

the discs you have now (in your log) are MCC-004-00 , this is one of the dyes we recommend so i doubt they are your problem, changing these could add to your problems
