All of my dvd+rw's are showing last format as DVD-ROM

When I first start up IMGBURN, the profile is DVD+RW, and the media shows as DVD+RW, but the last format is DVD-ROM

I have tried everthing that I can see in IMGBURN to change the format, but have had no luck.

After starting IMGBURN and inserting a DVD+RW disc, Here is what I get:

If anyone can help, please, please, please help me out here.

I am standing by to provide more information if needed.....

Thanks

You booktyped your DVD when you burned it.

But how can I change the booktype on the dvd disc back to dvd+rw ???

I am currently sitting here with a stack of basically useless DVD+RW's, because it thinks it is a DVD-ROm and will not let me burn to it...

Posted

The booktype has nothing to do with being able to burn the disc or not.

'CurrentProfile' is the one that's important and as you can see, that still says 'DVD+RW'.

So what exactly is the problem you're experiencing?

OK,

1 quick note, all of these previously recorded DVD+RW's were previously recorded on a NEC ND-3540A 1.04 burner

I have since upgraded to the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S183L SB01 (RAID) and that seems to be when my problem started...

Onwards:

I pop a previously recorded DVD+RW in the drive and the device status line reads:

Ready (Disc Needs Formatting)

I then select an image to burn and load that image.

The burn icon is colored, so that is good to go.

I click the icon and a pop-up says the disk is not empty.

The device status line then changes to:

Disc Not Empty

I then right click on "destination" and select quick erase.

It returns a "Successful erase"

Meanwhile the "Current Profile" has changed to "DVD-ROM"

and the device status still shows as "Disc Not Empty"

When it says 'Disc Needs Formatting', does it actually attempt to format the disc (before the real write) when you try to burn something?

Copy + paste the log so I can see what it's doing.

Thanks :)

Also the burn icon is no longer colored, meaning, I can't select the icon to start burning

So once you click the 'Write' button, the program tries to erase / format the disc, then it gives up?

At this point, the 'Current Profile' has changed from DVD+RW to DVD-ROM?

If you eject + reinsert the disc does the current profile go back to DVD+RW?

Correct!

It actually shows the erase as successfully completing!

Yes, at this point the current profile has changed to DVD-ROM

No, after ejecting and then reloading the dvd, the current profile remains DVD-ROM

can you please copy + paste the info in the panel on the right when current profile is dvdrom.

Again, Thanks for all of the help,

Hmm it's being reported by the drive that it's not even erasable anymore!

Do you have Alcohol 120% installed at all?

There's an option in that program to make DVD+RW look like DVD-ROM's.

If you have, disable it and the problem should go away.

On my computer with the SAMSUNG burner, No.

On my computer with the original NEC burner, Yes.

However, I am having the same problem on both computers.

Now I can take any of these "problem" DVD+RW's to my wifes computer and can burn them there with no problem.

But even after a successful burn on her computer, I still cannot do anything on my 2 computers

So what happens if you disable the option on the one running Alcohol?

It's the 'Ignore Media Type' one in the 'Emulation' options window.

What happens if you boot into safemode and then examine the disc info via ImgBurn as you've done above?

I have a SH-S183A and can't reproduce this issue (although it's a drive/system issue anyway and not a program one). I am on a more mature firmware though - SB02 - but that's not available for your drive.

YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!

I took off the check in Alcohol and everything worked like a charm!

When I went to the other computer, it still would not work.

Even though Alcohol was not in the start/programs, it had been previously installed. I browsed to the install folder and ran/unchecked the box and now everything is back to normal

Thanks a million and I really appreciate all of the help and effot that you have extened to me!!!

No problem, you're not the first to come to us with this issue.

As I recall, it was harder to work out the issue the first time - now I just remember the signs and put 2 and 2 together pretty quickly!

I really am a :albert: aren't I ?? Btw good call on Alcohol 120% boss, never seen that before but will try and remember that if we see these symptoms again.

Well, I might have been a litle quick on the draw.....

I am still having problems with my Samsung burner.

I think it might have to do with all of the changes that I made to Booktypes.

When using IMGBURN, and trying to write to a DVD+RW, I get the following log report:

I 17:57:10 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started!

Rewritables never work as well as write once discs... get used to it!

Try a different make (dye) of DVD+RW, maybe the drive just doesn't like Sony ones.

You don't need to touch the booktype stuff, just leave everything on the default settings. The problems you're having here are totally unrelated to that.
