ems Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Hello, this is my first post. I encountered this problem and can't seem to figure it out. I searched the forum for the answer and while there's many other post with the same question, the reason for the problem various. Any help would be very much welcomed. Thanks. LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Ok, so you've got a laptop drive or something yeah? Well, at least it's one that can't 'load' the disc/tray by itself. It ejects the disc after the burn and before the verify so it's more accurate. As your drive can't do it automatically, you'll need to push it in by hand. There's no problem with anything so far. I 10:56:17 Source File Size: 52,985,856 bytes That's how big your image is and so that's what was burnt to the disc. I see the hard drive is only using FAT32 rather than NTFS for the file system. If you look in the log you'll see these messages W 10:54:00 Drive C:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size.W 10:54:00 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. So I suspect that whatever program made the ISO simply didn't account for you using FAT32 and it not being able to create a file > 4GB in size - which is what a DVD image would normally be. Unless you have a specific reason not to, you should convert them both to NTFS. Just look in the XP help for how to do that. (Basically you run the line 'convert c: /fs:ntfs' from the command prompt window, followed by 'convert d: /fs:ntfs')
ems Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 Thanks I'll try that. I used DVDShrink to make the ISO image. That is a good program to use to create an ISO image right? Yes it's a laptop, but it's only temp. The burner in my tower just went out so I'm gonna replace it this weekend and use that to burn the ISO images. Hopefully with a new burner everthing will work out.
spinningwheel Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Hopefully with a new burner everthing will work out. Not with this media I'm afraid...Get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yudens and avoid the hassle... I 09:39:14 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: RITEKF1) (Speeds: 4x, 8x)

For many weeks now iv been trying to burn dvds but with no success, then i read what u wrote about converting my drives, so i'm desparately hoping that this will work, can u please please please help me to work out where i'm going wrong. thanx
blutach Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Ness, you shouldn't hijack someone else's thread (not that we don't do it to almost every thread anyway ) From the wiondows desktop, press F1 and type in Convert to NTFS. Follow the directions. Remember, it only works for hard drives (not optical ones, doh!) and those on FAT. Regards
