However I figured it out (finally).

 

Yesterday I spent some time in burning. After destroyed 5 disks (at 75% as always), uninstall Alcohol120 (just in case interferes) roll back to previous (non-beta) version of bios (dated Sept 2005). No success with anything and additionally the max and average speed (according to log):

 

Average Write Rate: 2,791 KB/s (2.0x) - Maximum Write Rate: 5,582 KB/s (4.0x)

 

These are very low numbers although I set max speed.

 

Eventually I installed the QSuite and disabled WOPC. That?s it guys. The write rate immediately reached 8x, the so-familiar success sound played again soon. Now according to log the speed:

 

Average Write Rate: 10,483 KB/s (7.6x) - Maximum Write Rate: 11,155 KB/s (8.1x)

 

I know this was my mistake from the beginning (that I didn?t try the Qsuite) but this thread can be useful to someone someday.

 

WTF is WOPC and does it have a relation with my disks?

You should leave WOPC enabled.

 

It basically checks the quality of the burn DURING the burn.

If it notices the quality is sub-par, it'll slow it down until error rates are within acceptable limits.

 

It really decent media, you can safely disable WOPC and then the drive will reach max speed (i.e. 16x). Sometimes it always falls short of that - even with proper 16x speed rated media.

 

cdfreaks forum might be of use to you here. They talk about this sort of thing in the BenQ subforum quite a lot.

 

If you're bored, perform another burn with WOPC enabled and then (within ImgBurn), click 'Display Graph Data Using DvdInfoPro' from within the File menu.

You'll need DVDInfoPro installed of course - free version is fine.

 

You can then see exactly how the drive is changing the write speed at the burn progresses.

OK but after a series of unsuccessful burn attempts (all of them freeze at about 75%) I had two continuous successful and faster burns only after I disabled WOPC

In order to display the Graph Data Using DvdInfoPro, do I have to enable WOPC or I can do it with disabled WOPC as well and then compare both methods?

 

Also I was wondering if there is some kind of incompatibility between my hardware and the WOPC and/or Benq drive.

 

I have hardware raid0 configuration on 2 SEAGATE 160GB each 7200 SATA. The rest:

ASUS ASUS K8NE ?DELUXE

AMD AMD XP 3200+ 64

You can burn with any options selected and at any speed. The Write Speed Graph is totally separate from all that stuff. It's just from ImgBurn taking 'samples' of the current speed at regular intervals (defaults to ever 100 milliseconds).

 

WOPC is just a drive thing so I don't think it's possible to have incompatibilities with it.

I would defer to LUK on this but the consensus over at cdfreaks

is those drivers can cause all kinds of problems with atapi devices.

Standard procedure is roll back to the default MS ones.

 

I just finished a reload of XP and the default drivers work very well.

Got a Gigabyte GA-K8NS motherboard myself, using the same Nforce3 250 drivers - no major problems encountered.

 

Only problem I had was that on swapping drives one time, system incorrectly reset DMA access to the slowest possible, even though it detected support for faster options. Manual override fixed it.

Hello :focus:

 

I just want to report my ImgBurn 1.1.0.0 usage with Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 with LG 4163B (firmware A105 and NVIDIA CK804 Parallel ATA Controller v2.7).

 

I always got working copies with DVDDecrypter 3.5.4.0 or ImgBurn 1.0.0.0, but those does not really physically verify written data :thumbdown:

 

With ImgBurn 1.1.0.0, write operation OK, but verify always fails... Of course I tested with several brands, speed min/max, nothing to do :suicide:

 

I finally found the solution that work with my material and the interesting verify feature of ImgBurn 1.1.0.0: burn+verify with ImgBurn 1.0.0.0, then verify (real) with ImgBurn 1.1.0.0, it works ! :w00t:

 

It simply gets longer for me but burnings are 100% OK, that counts :)

Is there *anything* non bog ISO standard about these images?

 

I really don't understand where the data corruption is coming from.

 

If there was some program problem I'd expect it to find its way into write and verify. They use the exact same function for reading from the file. Also, as only part of the sector seems to be wrong (not the entire sector), it really doesnt make sense!

 

If only I could find a pc it breaks on and physically sit down at it and debug it :(

I do not understand where the problem could be, too :(

 

Maybe would it be useful not to stop verify operation after first comparison error in ImgBurn 1.1.0.0 but just list errors in the log window, so we would be able to see if there is a lot of errors or only one error ? :unsure:

 

Second thing, you think it could be an ISO file issue, I had some ideas too but without making any change to an ISO file, I get verify error with 1.1.0.0, while burn+verify with 1.0.0.0 + verify (real) with 1.1.0.0 works perfectly... :huh: Could it be a write function error, or a write error (maybe with material, not ImgBurn), because with 1.1.0.0 I am always not able to read some sectors ?

 

And finally, do not fall in total sadness :lol: I found a kind of solution with my material, it is unpleasant but not lethal :D

You can press F6 to enable some additional debugging code.

 

When Verify errors out, it'll dump the sector's data to the log.

 

Next time you burn, maybe give that a try?

That's a general read error though, nothing to do with miscompares during the verify.

 

You drive is just doing such a shoddy burn on those discs that it can't then read them back.

 

Any chance of getting a full copy + paste of the log?

I did not saved it, but the log is 100% good, no error shown during burning >_<

 

And sorry I missed to tell you the fact when it is not Read Error, it is a Mismatch Error, everytime :blush:

See as you're always getting read errors, it would suggest the drive is having real trouble reading the sectors... yes?

 

So it makes sense that it's ALWAYS having trouble reading them, but sometimes it actually thinks it has managed to (after a lot of error correction). My guess is that the error correction isn't good enough and the sector it is rebuilding and then returning to my program as a valid sector is indeed incorrect - hence the mismatch.

Sometimes, I do. But those are mainly backup CD or DVD so I do not change the volume label because it is already OK :unsure:

 

I will report you my usage with AAA+ probably during the next week. Thank you :thumbup:

Ok, that's cool.

 

Just to really point it out though... look at the 'NOTE:' line in the log.

The actual data within the sector has compared just fine, it's the error correction stuff that's now different. Most drives totally ignore those bytes within the sector, on the fly when you burn - unless you burn in RAW mode (which I'm not). The drive then recalculates the data and burns the correct EDC/ECC data.

 

So if you've not changed the image since it was first made, the program you used to create it hasn't done a very good job - because you drive is correcting what it has done! (That is a little weird though as it looks like you're using Microsoft's internal ISO building util!)

99% are my images created by ImgTool Classic :rolleyes: The image for test CD was supplied by a friend ;)

 

Yesterday I dropped down my second disk drive, leaving only HDD on primary IDE master and DVD-RW on secondary IDE, master. But nothing changed :(

 

I would receive my AAA+ in three days, I will keep you inform :)
