Smerk Zero Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) Hey, im trying to burn a ISO to a DVD and im having some trouble doing so. Basically the Write button just doesnt become clickable after i insert a disk. Im guessing this is because there is no "medium" present. I have searched the forum and looked for anything like my problem and i came across a few similar to mine, although im pretty sure that my dive is capable of writing DVDs. Can anyone help me out here please? EDIT: Btw im using an MTV DVD-R 4.7Gb 16x. Heres my log: ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 - Log ; Thursday, 23 August 2007, 17:03:01 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 16:29:12 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started! volvofl10 Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 have you tried another brand of disc ? it appears your drive just doesnt like those disc your using . you could look for a firmware update for the NEC drive which may overcome the problem
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I 16:29:12 Found 2 DVD-ROMs and 1 DVD+RW! You only have a DVD+ format supporting drive. You need DVD+R media, not DVD-R.
Smerk Zero Posted August 23, 2007 Author Posted August 23, 2007 Thank you for your replies. So i need to replace my CD Drive with one compatible with DVD-R? Or i need to switch my Dvd's to DVD+RW's? I have another computer upstairs that has a HP DVD Writer 300n, do you guys know if that one might work? Sorry for the questions but im a noob when it comes to CD Drives.
volvofl10 Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 install Imgburn on the other machine upstairs, put a blank disc in it, then post the log file again , OR just try it and burn it anyway
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 They're both really old drives to be honest, you could do with 2 new ones if you intend on using both for burning!
Smerk Zero Posted August 24, 2007 Author Posted August 24, 2007 (edited) The one on my computer upstairs is just an old junker that i use for the hard drive lol. This one i have decided needs a replacement. I dont have alot of money however and i just basically looked for the cheapest one that sounded like it will work, since anything would beat my current one (from about 2002/3 i think). I looked at some online stores and this one seems to be the best i could find for the price. Tell me what you guys think, and more importantly if it will work. They are charging $49.50 for it: AOpen DSW2012P DVD Burner - IDE DVD±R 20x, DVD±R DL 8x, DVD+RW 8x, DVD-RW 6x - Black, OEM with Software Interface: ATAPI / E-IDE Recording Capacity: DVD+-R DL : 8.5GB DVD+-R/RW : 4.7GB DVD-RAM : 4.4/2.6GB CD-R/RW : 700/650MB Date Transfer Mode: UDMA : Mode 4 (66MB/sec) DMA : Mode 2 (66MB/sec) PIO : Mode 4 (16MB/sec) Max. LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I wouldn't go for an AOpen drive personally. For $30, you really can't beat the one chewy linked to.

chewy Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 http://www.gcco.com.au/cdwriter.php the pioneer and samsung(non sata)
Smerk Zero Posted August 24, 2007 Author Posted August 24, 2007 http://www.gcco.com.au/cdwriter.php the pioneer and samsung(non sata) Wonderful! even cheaper than i expected! thank you very much for your quick and helpful replies
blutach Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Smerk - check out some of the prices on http://www.i-tech.com.au/ They aren't bad. Go for an LG or a Benq drive (I prefer LGs - they are just soooooo reliable). For example this one is A$53 EDIT - I see Chewy has found a cheaper supplier!! Regards
Logic 7 Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 (edited) I'm also getting this message periodically. I used to be able to use imation discs my wife bought for me a couple years ago but they dont show up anymore and now I use Tayo Yudens and sometimes I have to load the disc several times before I can burn to it. I use DVD-Rs by the way ????????????? Edited August 24, 2007 by Logic 7
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 If you're getting the same message then it makes sense that the exact same fixes / suggestions apply to you. Update the firmware Change media Clean the drive Buy a new drive
