Failed to Write Sectors...

I've been trying all afternoon to back up some of my files on a cd. I have an HP DVD Writer 840b and I've been using some Memorex discs.

I've searched the 'net for an answer, but I'm not getting anything that clearly states why I'm having this problem. The only thing I could find on this forum when someone asked the same question was that ImgBurn is not a ripper. That didn't give me a clear answer or how to solve my problem, so I'm asking here.

There's no update to my firmware, I've tried burning at a lower speed, etc. but nothing helps.

Could someone give me a clearer answer please?

Thanks...here is my log. =)

lol well if nothing else, your post has let me fix a typo in the word 'Eror' - or 'Error' as it's supposed to be ;)

Try this firmware update.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/generic...=en&lang=en

If it doesn't work, get some different discs.

You wouldn't believe the hell I've been thru this evening trying to get this to work, lolol. I have no hair left =o

First of all, the firmware update requires you to download the iso to either a CD or a floppy. =\ Well, you know I can't burn a CD and computers these days don't usually come with a floppy drive (and mine doesn't either). Soooo...I had to go get an older computer that I had and download the iso to that pc. Then I had to take apart another older computer that had a burner in it and put that burner into a compacted HP Pavilion which I ended up having to take almost everything out of it to fit the burner in. Finally, I get it altogether and fire it up and find out the damn thing had a burner in it for YEARS and I didn't know it. It said it was a burner...but I had never been able to get it to work! After firing up the pc and then putting some burning software on it, I found this out. (OMG, what a blonde).

Anyway, I've been working on this friggin thing since 3 pm and it's now almost 11 pm.

I got the firmware update burned on the CD and rebooted this pc with it and updated it.

No change.

I've tried Lightscribe (it's a LS burner) discs and Memorex CD-RW (which it has burned on both before...but now it won't !

With the CD-RW disc...I got about the same log:

I think I'll just get a router (until I can buy another burner for this) and move stuff...it seems to be much easier.

It's too bad that HP is putting out junk for over $1000. I've read that a lot of customers have had this problem with this particular DVD burner.

You couldn't have mounted the ISO as a virtual CD drive with Daemon Tools?

Anyway, if the firmware didn't help you, try new blanks. If that is no good, try to clean the drive. If that is no good, buy a new one. Check that DMA is on, too.

Uhhhh...what?

Maybe some cheap blanks might work... the DVD burner works fine, no problems.

Yes, DMA is on.

I'll post what works...if I ever find anything.

thx
