Burn HardDrive to image while running WinXP Pro

I am trying to fine out if ImgBurn can be run on the active Hrard Drive and build ' burn direectly to a DVD on the current C:. I'm wanting to backup and archive my HDD on multiple DVD's if possible. Will this work?

Use something like Acronis True Image.
