They are Taiyo Yuden! or at least should be I have the invoice here in front of me saying they are..and every burn I have done with them has been excellent. I wonder if there is another way of reading the blank cd info Thanks for the tip tho I never thought it might be the media.

Eject + reinsert the tray (when you've got one of the blanks in it) and then copy + paste the info from the panel on the right in the main ImgBurn window.

Yep I see it Pre-recorded Information: Manufacturer ID: TYG02 it seems to happen when I first boot Imgburn, I don't think it's a disc error, I closed and reopened Imgburn and it was fine. I shall test some more at least I now know what the problem is thanks. why it happens I dunno yet.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Switch the 'Write Type' in the Settings to 'Incremental' rather than 'DAO'. It shouldn't make a different but for some system/drive/firmware/media combo's it does. It's also possible Nero doesn't look for / detect errors during these final stages. The program isn't actually doing anything at this point, it's just polling the drive to see if the operation (in this case, 'Sync Cache') has completed yet. The drive reported a 'Write Error' and so ImgBurn simply tells you about it.

If I have the time I always thought burning a dvd-r at 1x was the best to assure it worked ok. the unknown device is a VOBID instantcd drive, it might be something to do with Nero, I must work out where it's from and get rid of it. na def not a re-writable disc btw instant copy and clone cd all burn ok too, it's just imgburn that has problems. that was naother coaster it burned yesterday, maybe I should give up using it, pity I have used it for years and always thought it was the best, my system is obviously corrupted somehwere for it to work properly.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 That last burn appeared ok to me (ignoring the retry for the sync cache command)... what exactly is a 'coaster' about it? Why don't you verify the disc as part of the burn? Then at least we'd be able to tell if the drive can read it back. Oh and you've not needed to burn at 1x for a long time. If anything, you'll be using better strategies at 8x and get a better burn.

Putting it in incremental mode seems to help but it seems to hang near the end of the burn with the dvd-rw still spinning. (Trying something other than CMC media might help though) Assuming you're running that drive (sata controller) in AHCI mode, any chance you could put it back to std ATA mode and try again? My sata drives just show up as ATA so it could be a driver issue.

I assume this can be done from BIOS? edit: actually I think it hangs off the same controller as my HDDs so i'm not keen on changing it away from AHCI. dontasciime Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 The settings in your bios will give a choice, change from AHCI to IDE. I prefer this mode as you get no problems mixing SATA and PATA . I also do not notice any difference in speed.
Mudhoney Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Ok i just tried plugging the burner into the alternative SATA ports (different SATA controller to HDD) in IDE mode and the machine froze at the first BIOS screen. Put it back to the regular SATA ports and it boots again.

Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 That's one of the reasons I forgot about RAID 0 when putting in my latest board and after a hdd died in my last set taking 1TB of data with it. I knew I needed to have 2 SATA optical drives on the new board (after Intel removed the IDE port from their chipsets - doh!) and in testing I found them to be much more reliable when running as standard ATA rather than RAID/AHCI. The hdds I've got will do 90mb/s anyway so RAID-0 isn't that big of a deal. Not only that, they're only storage drives.
