I need to burn an img file to cd. This shouild result in the presence of an executable file and other supporting files that install software, drivers, etc. on the cd. I didn't see an option in ImgBurn to burn an img file and I couldn't find any topics in the forum that address this issue. Suggestions appreciated.

Yes. However, when I select the img file to burn I get a message that says: Invalid or unsupported image file format. I've downloaded this file from the manufacturer's (NetGear) twice but always get this message when I try to burn the image in ImgBurn.

Please tell us where to download that file, so that we can test it and find out what the problem is.

If it's a netgear firmware file, you don't burn it. You upload it to the router via it's web interface.

A file having an extension of '.img' does not automatically make it a disc image file that you need to burn to cd/dvd. Normally the instructions that go along with the file will tell you what to do with it.

Ok. That makes much more sense. Found the directions on the website that tell how. Thought this was a disk image since I didn't get a CD with the router bought through a thrid party.

You know routers don't need drivers yeah?

The thing you've downloaded (the firmware) is like the operating system for the router - and that might not even need updating. I wouldn't play around too much if you're unsure on what you're doing - you might end up killing it.

Take care and if you have to put firmware in do factory reset first once firmware is in do the same again and save the web page where netgear tell you how to restore if you firmware upgrade seems to kill router.
