motley_stew Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I've tried to burn an ISO disc 7 times now, i did one exactly the same, default settings, it worked no problems, but moved onto next disc, failed twice. Tried running the verify at 4x speed, no problems. Tried running again at max speed, again no problems. When i put a disc in, it gets to 50% or 90%(it seems to be one of these 2- 4 errors at either) and a get a random error, which i would post, but dont have any more discs hope this makes sense, and hope i can get some assistance cause its driving me totally nuts. Cheers!

volvofl10 Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I'd say it was the media, your drive just doesnt like it , try a decent brand like verbatim or taiyo yuden
chewy Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 your firmware is from nov 2004 and a rarer oem type http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1653S the CSOT basic firmware is a year newer, you would have to use the patched version to crossflash your drive don't worry about messing up your drive, it's time for it to be retired if the flash doesn't help those disks are terrible
motley_stew Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 Thanks for the help- the discs are cheap crap, but never had a problem before- if needs must then i can always upgrade them. Come to think of it, i did totally wipe my hard drive and reinstalled everything so drive would be as when bought. Installing stuff now.
volvofl10 Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 the problem with the majority of cheaper media is the consistency of quality. you can go thru several spindles without problems, then all of a sudden BANG , everyone is an error or failure. The only way round this is to get decent media from the start , and stick with it. Slightly more expensive admittedly , but worth it in the long run. I abandoned ritekG05 within 2 weeks of its release a few years back, whereas its predecessor ritekG04 was very reliable . i went the Taiyo yuden approach and have only lost about 7 out of 600+ iscs due to faulty media. The only reason i didnt use verbatim was my standalone players wern't to keen on it
motley_stew Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 Upgraded my firmware, check Bought new discs, check Still doesnt work. Wouldnt be as annoying if it hadnt worked one minute, and then not the next.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Post the log of you burning the new discs then please (and with updated firmware).
dontasciime Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Bought new discs, check yeah but did you just replace crappy media with crappy media ?
Arky2 Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I'd say it was the media, your drive just doesnt like it , try a decent brand like verbatim or taiyo yuden I have looked for the Taiyo Yuden disks, but haven't found them. Is there another popular name they go by? Arky2
