StoicLion Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 (edited) Ladies/Gents: I am an intermediary burner but I've come across a problem I cannot fix without help. I recently installed a SH-S203B burner into my system. I use ImgBurn as my primary program but I cannot change the Book Type setting from DVD+R to DVD-ROM. This is a recent problem because I have used the program to burn to disc that can play in standalone DVD players before. I use Verbatim DVD+R discs and do not think that is a problem. Also, I've tried other programs (DVDShrink 3.2, various version of Nero) but my problem remains: no ability to change book type. If someone could offer a way to bring up logs from previous burns, I'd be willing to listen. Otherwise, I'd have to burn another disc (unsuccessfully) to provide a log. Please advise. LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 It should be automatic on the samsung drives if you're using the latest ImgBurn. Just leave the settings alone and let ImgBurn do it's thing. Of course if you've disabled the automatic booktype option in the settings then that there would be your problem. As for the logs, look in the program's Help menu.
chewy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 welcome to the Imgburn forum I recently purchased a Samsung SH-203B for my system. I have connected the burner to my Asus AV8 Deluxe motherboard. from the cdfreak thread

dontasciime Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 that would because its dvd-r/rw you are using edit pop the disc back in and post right hand side info edited
chewy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 there's a lot of important stuff missing from that log might have to get a pata burner or a sata pci card that old via southbridge?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 lol yeah it would help if the log actually showed you burning something! All we've got there is a log of you making an ISO. When you do the burn, make sure you also have it verify afterwards (tick the 'Verify' box on the main screen).

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Ok, that proves it then. If the 'automatic change booktype' option is enabled, your SATA controller / drivers are blocking the actual command and stopping it working.
dontasciime Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 very slow for a 16x burn as well. see if there is an update for your sata controller or check how you have it configured in bios or in relation the the actual sata port your using on the motherboard.
chewy Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 it's been pretty well documented that the via 8237 will not get that samsung drive to work properly, the later 8237+ which features ide emulation will issues have been not being able to update firmware or use bitsetting bios flashes or driver updates do not work "all the kings horses and all the king's men" and even Imgburn can't put that one together
dontasciime Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Now Ic why you mentioned cdfreaks. (never spotted the A8V bit in your post) I also notice he is returning drive for PATA.
chewy Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I would be tempted to try the beta bios and a pioneer 212 but i probably hosed my controller sata part when I ran HT at 1400 and crashed windows in 2 weeks
