Defenestration Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) I created an image of a data CD (my XP installation disc) using ImgBurn, and then created two more images of the same disc with IsoBuster (one User Data, the other RAW). Both User Data ISO's were exactly the same (ie. 591MB and same MD5), but the RAW image was a fair bit larger (ie. 678MB). Why does ImgBurn create ISO's from User Data instead of RAW, or does it depend on the source disc (ie. sometimes it will use User Data, other times RAW) ? Edited November 6, 2007 by Defenestration
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 If the disc just has a Mode 1 track, it just copies the user data (2048 bytes per sector). There's no need for all the extra stuff that goes to make up the additional 304 bytes (2352 bytes per sector). If it's Mode 2 I believe it reads it 'raw' sectors (2352 bytes per sector). Also, by rights an ISO should just be the user data. I'm a bit naughty copying 'raw' cd tracks and using the .ISO name. By rights it should be a BIN file or something.
