jlva321 Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 I saw a similar problem from another user but I don't have any other programs running. This is an attempt to burn right after startup. Puter is new and is running a Plextor 7555A. I have tried multiple times using the Build feature with different Movies and different disks with the same result. (Does it make a difference if there are more files than just the 'VIDEO TS' folder I am using as the source . . . for example some DVD's have multiple files/folders when you examine them) Using Verbatim DVD+R single layers as well. mmalves Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Remove any disc that's inside the burner and reboot the computer, apply the latest firmware available (1.08) (reboot the computer after applying this upgrade) and try burning again. You might also want to try other burning speeds.
jlva321 Posted November 24, 2007 Author Posted November 24, 2007 Thanks. The firmware update got the burn to complete. Now I just can't get a good burn. I've tried a couple of files but they all end up pixelated through the previews and then just sort of lock up. I have been dragging and dropping the contents of a DVD to a new folder on my drive, then building the new DVD from that copied folder. Is that the best way to do it?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Are you still burning at 2.4x? Don't, burn at 12x. If you still can't get a good burn that writes + verifies ok, either you have a dodgy batch of discs or the drive is just useless.
jlva321 Posted November 24, 2007 Author Posted November 24, 2007 (edited) Yeah, I'm holding the speed down to 2.4 just in case. That's a shame, I had to wait days for Verbatim +R's to come in. As to exactly what steps to take. . . is it ok to drag and drop the entire contents of the DVD to the hard drive then build from that? Or should I 'Read' the DVD creating an ISO on my hard drive? Oh, and it is writing/verifying ok, the problem is on playback. Edited November 24, 2007 by jlva321

Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Drives are built for speed now so by slowing the burn down you might actually be making things worse - especially on decent media like MCC-004. How you burn the files doesn't make any difference. It can be an ISO or just the files, the drive doesn't care - it doesn't know about that sort of thing. If the discs you're burning now burn + verify ok (after the firmware update), that should at least mean playback is ok on the PC, so I assume the issue is with your standalone?
