chewy Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 there's something rotten in Denmark? http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmedia...h+or+List+Media (Disc ID: MCC 03RG20) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x) must be a Dell computer, it's not a laptop drive so why doesn't the firmware show 16X http://www.the-predator.com/dell/firmware.html#5-1-6 might be worthwhile to crossflash I wonder if the files/iso are even dvd compliant tho, might be worthwhile to doublecheck rather than trust Sonic.

greta80 Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 It's a hitachi, but I'm not sure which model.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Do you have a note of the exact error it pops up?

LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 All you can do is try some decent MCC or YUDEN DVD+R discs and booktype to DVD-ROM. You might find they work better.
greta80 Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 All you can do is try some decent MCC or YUDEN DVD+R discs and booktype to DVD-ROM. You might find they work better. Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you booktype it to dvd rom?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 You'll probably need to follow chewy's link above and convert to a BenQ 1620. Then you can use ImgBurn to make it booktype to DVD-ROM via the 'Book' icon down the bottom right of the main screen (in build mode it's on the 'Device' tab).
volvofl10 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 It's a hitachi, but I'm not sure which model. just look for numbers on the front of the player, failing that look on the back where the make and model will be on a sticker or a plate

chewy Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/ here's a program that if you rightclick on a vob file, it will tell if you made a ntsc dvd or a pal one since you are in ntsc land? computers play both
volvofl10 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 it does help us to help you if we know the make and model of the player. we can check/google what its specs are regarding what discs it will or will not play.

chewy Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDnam...ame&hits=50 reading the comments seems to indicate that the player doesn't like burned dvd's
packmule123 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDnam...ame&hits=50 reading the comments seems to indicate that the player doesn't like burned dvd's I was having a similar problem. I contacted on-line support form sony. My issue was the format of the actual file...nothing to do with PAL or NTSC. My file was in .VOB format and Sony states that my player only reads .VTS formats. So, If the file you have created is in a file format that your dvd player can't read...you will have to convert the files to one that the players will read. I am a newbie and I may be way off...just thought I'd drop my $0.02 in because our difficulties are similar. Take it for what it is worth. Edited December 18, 2007 by packmule123

spinningwheel Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 "Flashing" your optical drive is comparable to updating your operating system on your computer. Just as there are tweaks that need to be installed to overcome problems within an OS there are necessary fixes that the drive manufacturers issue that correct problems that they have encountered. Cross flashing to another manufacturers drive is not all that uncommon since drives are often re-badged by a brand name corporation but made by only one of very few drive manufacturers.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 The real BenQ firmwares support loads of extra stuff that the philips one probably doesn't. For instance, you can now use the 'book type' / 'advanced settings' features. They're located in the Tools -> Drive menu.
volvofl10 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 regarding the hitachi, its as Chewy said above, several poor reports about playing anything other than commercial bought discs. have you tried to play your disc on any other player ?, say a mates or family members player. Im trying to eliminate the hitachi player as the problem

dontasciime Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Think about buying a spare home DVD player as well but next time stay away from supposedly Superior brands like Hitachi/Sony/JVC/ and buy a cheap thing like Pacific/ Dual / Umax/ Coby/ as these will play just about anything, look for mpeg4/MP4/ xvid/ divx in specs as well.
